The Excel Dojo: A new way

There are so many times in life where we just fall into this groove of doing things a certain way. For me it was my work out routines.
I was really hell bent on wanting to lose weight and get a six pack in my 20's & 30's. I wanted to do this while also living the single life and partying on weekends. So I did what logic suggests is the right way to do things: burn more calories than I consume. Pretty simple, right? Not so much...
It started out pretty simple. I went to the gym, got in my cardio and paired back the calories. Boom, instant success.
Problem is I eventually stopped losing weight. So naturally I put in more hours at the gym, less calories in. It got to the point where I was working out 3 hours a day, consuming very little and barely losing weight. So it must be genetics, right?
Long story short my work schedule at the time forced me into night work. I also happened to injure my achilles tendon. There I was - no access to the gym, no cardio. Just weights and a weight program in my home. 2 months later I shed all the pounds and was ripped! I didn't plan it, I got lucky.
It turns out my basic logic was incorrect. Our bodies adapt to intense cardio and become more efficient. When I stopped the cardio and started the muscle build I made my body less efficient while building calorie burning muscle. Next thing I knew, I got the six pack. I got lucky...but I learned a lot.

What I learned from that experience is that what we THINK is the only way to do things can often be wrong. There are deeper levels of interaction at play that would lead our surface level logic astray and we get stuck in a time suck for a very long time.
That's why I love helping folks with Excel. There are so many times when I meet folks who are stuck in an old fashioned way of doing things. Spending countless hours on a task that could be done much more efficiently. For example, filling down a formulas across hundred of rows of numbers. In the post below I demonstrate the old way vs the newer way, using an efficient trick. Go ahead and try it - it'll save you a ton of time!
That's it for today! I'll catch ya next week.
