Examples of the King, Priest, and Prophet Anointing in Business.

Christianity Today wrote an article on 5 Companies Radically Shaped by the Faith of Their Owners. A vocation of ministry isn’t just for churches and nonprofits; ministry is also for marketplace leaders who own and run businesses. I was curious to understand how these business owners captured the essence of the King, Priest, and Prophet anointing. What I learned is that these business owners had a keen sense of kairos timing and were able to integrate their faith into their business practices. Take a look at how each CEO embodied the "anointing" of a king, prophet, or priest, recognizing that critical moment in their business5 Companies Radically Shaped by the Faith of Their Owners.and taking action accordingly:

Jeff Davidson (Camp Gladiator): The King's Anointing

  • Strategic Vision: Davidson recognized the kairos moment of accessible fitness, and he created a business model that counters the appeal of "Netflix and chill." He understood the need for community, affordability, and convenience, strategically positioning Camp Gladiator against competitors by offering a unique value proposition.
  • Decisive Action: Like a king leading his army, Davidson implements changes to benefits, creates a positive company culture, and establishes charitable initiatives. He acts decisively to address the needs of his employees and the community, fostering an "abundance mindset" that permeates the entire company.

Peter Demos (Demos' Restaurants): The Priest's Anointing

  • Building Community: Demos sees his restaurants as more than just places to eat; they are community hubs. He fosters a welcoming atmosphere and listens attentively to the needs of both his employees and customers. This creates a sense of belonging and loyalty, reflecting the priest's role in nurturing a flock.
  • Fostering Trust: Demos's commitment to transparency and his practice of actively listening to feedback build trust among his employees. His dedication to continuous improvement and his open communication about his faith demonstrate his integrity in creating a culture of trust within the company.

Simon Lee (Buy on Purpose): The Prophet's Anointing

  • Identifying Needs: Lee's "prophetic dream" reveals a need for businesses to operate with a higher purpose. He recognizes the kairos of ethical consumerism and builds his business model around giving back to the community. This resonates with customers who are looking for businesses that align with their values.
  • Inspiring Belief: Lee's commitment to transparency and his unique approach to customer interaction inspire belief in his mission. He doesn't just sell office supplies; he sells a vision of a company that makes a positive impact. This inspires customers and employees alike to join his cause.

Sam Thevanayagam (Parts Life, Inc.): The Priest's Anointing

  • Building Community: Thevanayagam fosters a supportive community within his company, extending a helping hand to employees in need, like the formerly incarcerated individual. This reflects the priest's role in providing care and guidance to those who seek redemption and a fresh start.
  • Re-creation and Renewal: Thevanayagam's focus on "re-creating" parts mirrors a spiritual theme of renewal and second chances. He sees his work as an extension of God's work in transforming lives. This imbues his business with a deeper meaning and purpose.

Joan Maxwell (Regulator Marine): The King's Anointing

  • Strategic Vision: Maxwell demonstrates a king's strategic vision by focusing on holistic excellence. She understands that creating a positive work environment, investing in employee well-being, and fostering a culture of faith contribute to increased productivity and overall success.
  • Decisive Action: Maxwell takes decisive action to implement changes that align with her vision. She introduces new management practices, invests in employee facilities, and establishes initiatives like the "In His Service" team to nurture the spiritual and emotional needs of her employees.

These examples showcase how business leaders can integrate their faith into their work, recognizing the kairos, or critical moment, and acting with the wisdom, vision, and compassion associated with kings, prophets, and priests. They demonstrate that faith and business can coexist and even complement each other, leading to success that is not just financial but also meaningful and impactful.
