Examples come from "above"?
The Brazilian electricity sector - through its multiple departments - points to terrible examples.
1) Power theft
An "activity" that has represented more than 10% of all energy delivery for decades.
2) Demand response
This program - which in leading countries has prospered and brought important benefits - is still only offered to a very small portion of consumers.
3) Replacing instant electric showers
Tens of millions of showers could and should be replaced by storage showers and be programmed to operate off-peak.
4) Changing peak times
The national demand curve has changed a lot in recent years. The peak, which was typically in the late afternoon/early evening, now also occurs in the middle of the afternoon. Rates should be adjusted - accordingly - to this new scenario.
5) Subsidies
Non-firm sources have received and still receive important subsidies that are paid by everyone, including those who do not contract them. A more equitable system should be implemented to avoid the current distortions.
6) Tree pruning and removal
Every year the story repeats itself. Branches and even trees fall onto the power grids, interrupting the power supply. Solutions are very well known but in Brazil we don't adopt them as we should.
In the meantime, Brazil is at the bottom of the market in $/kWh if the BRICS are used as a reference. Is this what we want?
