Congratulations, Ayu Miyamoto, for passing your viva exam. On 10/10/2023 at 14h, I attended online the public defense ?? of Ayu Miyamoto as an Examiner at the Design and Engineering of Construction and Architecture, KULeuven, Belgium. Her dissertation's title is:???Sustainability of Residential Buildings: Parametric Modelling and Data Visualisation for Early Design Stage.??The Ph.D. is supervised by Prof. De Frank Troyer (Supervisor) and Karen Allacker at the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering Science, KU Leuven, Leuven, Belgium.
The developed tool allows a limited input accumulating info over the first design phases (pre-design, sketch design, preliminary design) and contains a "dashboard" offering a numerical and graphical overview of selected characteristics of each design variant considered as a relevant step. An overview of the design history is automatically generated. In this Ph.D. research, the database for monetized environmental impacts of building elements is elaborated based on the Belgian LCA method for buildings
Congratulations, Ayu, for this great achievement and dedication to many complex details. The parametric modeling and sensitivity analysis, together with the suggested Improved Dynamic Equivalent Heating Degree Day (IdEHDD) method and the Equivalent Heating Degree Day (EHDD) method, present a solid contribution to the field of informed design decision support. I can confirm that your persistence in combining building performance simulation with life cycle assessment is one of the key reasons for your success.

1 年Another PhD dissertation on the use of building performance simulation in the early architectural design stages. The usability testing and user experience work were fundamental components of the work. Looking forward to more usability studies and publications in the field of building performance simulation.
