Examine Hurricane Fiona Damage in New Brunswick
Hurricane Fiona battered the East coast of New Brunswick on September 23rd and 24th, 2022. It was one of the most damaging storms in recent history. To aid in damage assessment the GeoNB Team assisted with the collection of air photos. On October 11th and 12th the air photos were collected along the coast from Miscou Island in the North to the Nova Scotia border in the south.
It is now possible to use the free GeoNB Map Viewer to view the post-Fiona air photos and compare them to air photos collected two years earlier. Here are the steps:
4. Open the "Layers" tool and turn on the "2022 Imagery" layer at the bottom of the list:
To switch back and forth between the 2022 and 2020 air photos simply check and uncheck the "2022 Imagery" layer in the "Layers" tool.
The initial view shows the failure of a retaining wall in the community of Murray Corner. You can explore more communities along the coast by panning and zooming the map with you mouse. If you have any questions contact [email protected].
