Exam Time!

Do you remember the anxiety you felt as a student before a major examination? It is especially daunting to face a standardized exam which will have a significant impact on your educational choices.
P.L.E. is the Rwandan acronym for “Primary Leaving Examination.” This is the first significant gateway for any student in Rwanda. As students desire to transition from primary school to secondary school, they must complete a national standardized examination. Then, they are ranked in comparison with every other student in the nation and receive scores placing them in “Divisions.” This national ranking determines many of their future opportunities.
Historically, 100% of Hope Haven’s students have scored in the top 5% of the nation—an incredible track record! Of course, this high standard generates a lot of pressure for the classes behind them.
This year, we are also facing our first O-Level Examinations, where Hope Haven’s Senior Three (9th grade) students will take the next level of examinations. You can feel the energy around campus as they study hard, complete practice tests, and receive individualized tutoring as needed. Every single one of these students passed in Division One for the Primary Leaving Exam, and now they will be Hope Haven’s first class to face the O-Level exam.??

Last year, we began a tradition of meeting at 6:45 AM each day to encourage and pray with our test candidates. The tradition continued last week for the 46 P.L.E. candidates, and continues this week with the Senior Three candidates, before their three days of testing begins, today, July 26, 2022.
As we delivered motivational speeches to them, we reminded them they are well prepared and they should enter the testing center with confidence, but without pride. Dean Pascal challenged them to show love to their fellow test takers. As a very practical demonstration of this love, Hope Haven provided lunch for two days for 355 students, most from other schools in the region, at the Gasogi government testing center.
Following the speeches, we surrounded the students with a circle of prayer, with 27 Americans sharing the warmth of our love, support, and encouragement. We have high hopes for each one of these students and they couldn’t be more motivated or equipped!
Will you take a minute to pray alongside us today for these precious students?
