TALENTED Geelong young guns Luka Skoko and Nicholas Volarevic, formerly of North Geelong Warriors FC, appeared on this week's Oz Cro Soccer Show podcast and spoke about their respective stories of how they got themselves to Croatia to kick off their professional footballing careers.
The up and coming ex-Warriors, Volarevic (now with fourth tier side Primorac Strobec) and Luka Skoko (now with HNL Second Division side NK Dugoplje) joined the Oz Cro Soccer Show on Wednesday night and provided some insights to life as a professional footballer and offered some straightforward yet often overlooked advice.
When asked about the culture of the clubs they’re at currently and what the differences were between the football scene in Croatia and what they were used to in Australia, it came down to mindset.
"In Croatia they approach each game and training session through a kind of 'dog eat dog' mentality and are willing to fight that much harder to prove their worth and ultimately gain a full time position on the roster," explained Luka Skoko, who is currently training with the Dalmatian club's Reserves' team.

"In terms of advice, you have to be prepared to sacrifice a lot," said Volarevic, who has managed to break into the Senior team at fourth tier Primorac, which like NK Dugopolje is also located on the periphery of Split, Croatia's second largest city.
"You need to keep pushing yourself and doing the little extras. Even with a full time schedule of training, you still need to work on yourself, your touch, your mindset, anything to give you an edge. It all adds up," he revealed.
The two childhood friends have differing schedules, but do their best to be each other’s support through the changes in environment and expectations on them
