EX to the DEX - Where Do You Stand?

EX to the DEX - Where Do You Stand?

Employee experience (EX) certainly feels like the buzzword of the year, but what does EX look like for organisations in the real world??

Today, organisations find themselves at various stages of their EX journey. While some have dedicated employee experience teams, others are integrating EX into existing HR or communications departments. There's no one-size-fits-all approach. This diversity is both a strength and a challenge.

No matter how tricky the journey may seem, no challenge is insurmountable. By fostering leadership engagement, breaking down silos, offering genuine recognition, managing comments thoughtfully, and embracing personalisation, we can steer our organisations towards enriched, meaningful employee experiences.

Workplace Door Closes and the Viva Engage Gates Flood

As the announcement came last week that Meta will be shutting down Workplace, there's been a rush to understand what the heck is Viva Engage. Most commonly known by its former name, Yammer, Viva Engage is Microsoft's answer to enterprise social networking - like social media for employees. While the user experience feels fairly similar to that of its predecessor, Viva Engage brings connection and collaboration to the next level by surfacing community experiences from across your digital workplace. The basic Viva Engage features are already included in existing M365 enterprise licenses, which include the ability to create and join employee communities, post and pin announcements, access engagement insights, post questions and create stories.?

To get your hands on the jazzier features, you will need the premium version. But, don't worry - Microsoft has created a Communications & Communities Viva license just for Internal Comms. It means you get access to the core comms tools - Engage, Connections & Amplify - at a fraction of the price.

You can watch my latest demo of Viva Engage here or read more in our latest guide - What is Microsoft Viva?

Effective and Innovative Digital Employee Experience (DEX)

Every seasoned internal comms professional understands the impact that a modern and collaborative workspace can have on employee experience. But articulating that impact, particularly when trying to convince your senior stakeholders of the predicted return on investment, is no mean feat. Providing a virtual hub and creating a platform for inclusive communication will drive better collaboration and productivity no matter where you work.

We're heading in the same direction with digital employee experience, but there are 3 common challenges. Stepping back to see the big picture, planning the roadmap to get there, and getting leadership buy-in. In a joint webinar with our partners at AB, we'll be sharing:

  • How to influence stakeholders and get them on board for the DEX journey
  • The role IC teams and comms channels play in the bigger DEX picture
  • Practical steps to drive the conversation forward

Register for the webinar and listen as I speak with Katie Macaulay, MD & IC expert, and discuss how to move the DEX conversation further.

Very interesting. In the past I struggled getting staff to use Yammer. For some reason it never fully took off with staff members. Curious if the changes will impact engagement in a positive way.
