Exciting New Project with USAID in Tanzania

Inception meeting for the Transforming Tanzania’s Vegetable Markets initiative under Feed the Future Tanzania Kilimo Tija.

After collaborating with the USAID-funded Feed the Future Kilimo Tija Project as a non-grantee for the past year, EWS-KT Tanzania will now be supporting smallholder farmers in southwestern Tanzania under a 3-year grant from Kilimo Tija.

Following the success of our VeggieTap farming app in Myanmar and the Philippines, we recently launched VeggieTap for Africa, developed with SkillEd. Available in 6 languages, this free, easy-to-navigate app is designed for commercial farmers and home gardeners in Africa.

Women Farmers Study: Focus on Myanmar

Our inaugural study on women farmers involved discussions with women in India, the Philippines, Tanzania, and Uganda. To add to this knowledge base, we turned next to Myanmar, and our report on women farmers in Myanmar has just been released.


World Environment Day Webinar on Soil Health

In collaboration with two of our knowledge partners—Koppert Foundation and Wageningen University & Research—we held a live World Environment Day webinar on soil health and offered steps that farmers can take to mitigate damage and help restore soil fertility.

Before Emelita Baligat?took part in an EWS-KT crop diversification project co-funded by PhilRice, she grew only rice, leaving her vulnerable to disruptions from natural disasters. Now her income from vegetables is making it possible for her to support her children’s education.

Four years after first encountering an EWS-KT demo plot in his community, 35-year-old Safiyanu?Abubakar is widely recognized for his expertise in new farming techniques and is earning extra income by training farmers in different parts of Kano state.
