Stories of change
Celebrated on 13 February, World Radio Day recognizes the impact of this enduring technology. In northern Nigeria, radio not only transmits the knowledge needed to cultivate life-changing crops but also sows dreams in the hearts of smallholder farmers like Maryam and Fatima.
Over the last 18 months, Md. Oliullah has switched his farming focus from rice to vegetables—and to natural pest control. Today, his crops in southern Bangladesh include chili, bitter gourd, bottle gourd, pumpkin, sponge gourd, yard long bean, and leafy greens.
“Empowering women in agriculture is not just about farming; it’s about cultivating a path to economic freedom and social strength, particularly here in Tanzania,” said EWS-KT team member Hadija Muhidini, who spoke at a 1-day women’s conference in the country’s Iringa region.
Partnering for Greater Impact
East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer Foundation and Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture (SFSA) recently embarked on a 5-year collaborative partnership aimed at uplifting smallholder farming communities in Africa and Asia.
East-West Seed joined this pledge to advance UN SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) in 2022. EWS-KT is proud to be their implementing partner, working to increase food security for refugees and farmers in Uganda and South Sudan. Watch the video below for an update on our progress.
