EWI After Images
EWI is a fantastic solution for solid wall homes. Sure, you lose the benefit of free heating from the sun... and okay the benefits of high thermal mass of your solid wall home is lost a little, but the benefits are huge. The walls remain dry for starters. (The u-value of wet walls is roughly half of that of a dry wall). Your paid-for heat soaks into your walls and you DO then benefit from the thermal mass of your building and the building looks much better - increasing it's value to prospective tenants and owners alike.
Now the cautionary bit...
Not all installers are created equal. The images above show poorly installed EWI with water seeping in at the corners, seen in RED and YELLOW. Once again good old infrared provides a great visual way of verifying an install. If you are spending thousands on EWI per home, surely it has to be worth adding a small percentage for an after image to prove the quality? And surely.. if you are a kick-ass contractor, you would happily prove your awesomeness to your lovely clients? Alternatively, if you own 10,000 houses as a local authority or housing association - bear this technology in mind, done properly it is a hard survey to argue against.

9 年Great article, an infrared survey should be mandatory after EWI is installed.
