Ewaste Refining: An In-Depth Look into Americas Newest Refinery.
The United States of America has one of the most apparent e-waste collection schemes in the entire world. Unlike in Europe or Asia, thousands of e-waste collectors offer free service to pick-up e-waste, some companies even take the time to drive the streets on garbage day collecting e-waste from the front yards of neighborhoods. This type of ambition is something the rest of the world could learn from. One thing lacking in the United States, however, is a full-scale metal refinery.
Then around June of 2019, I had the pleasure to meet Derek Ramsell. The owner of a progressive e-waste focused refining service start-up. Within the first month of our meeting, Derek's Company EVOTUS Inc. was using the ViewPas software within their refinery. Being one of a very few refineries in the United States of America and the only one focusing itself purely on e-waste recycling and refinement, it was a perfect fit for our AI-driven E-waste Processing Management Software.
I thought after several months of using the ViewPas system it was time to approach Derek to see if he would agree to offer us a review, reference letter or anything that we could use publicly to show potential clients what they can expect when they implement our software in their e-waste processing facility. Normally, we are met with a "No sorry, we don't want people to know we are using this." for self-explanatory and understandable reasons. But when I asked Derek, to my surprise the answer was, "Absolutely, you guy's have been great and you deserve a reference." So I sent Derek some questions via email, and he responded with some astonishing answers.
Q. How would you describe the benefit of using ViewPas in your day to day operations
Derek: The management tools allow us to track each order using QR codes to simply scan and start working, the process management system makes it easier for us to train and remind our people of technical processes for each material. Everything is managed in one place even our supplier and shipment data is integrated seamlessly. These features alone would be enough to save thousands of lost hours and being able to track every order through to complete refinement is something we haven't seen on any other platform we've studied.
Q. As a refiner what can you say about the ImageAssay system, has it proven to be accurate, is it better than sampling, how do you use it?
Derek: Our product procurement expert has been very satisfied with the process of scanning a prospective suppliers images. It offers us an extra layer of precaution when purchasing high-risk materials, the system alerting us of possible scavenged material has saved us many bad dealings and it's surprisingly accurate even when we think it can't be right. We'll use this in conjunction with our own assaying and sampling process and it's an intrinsic part of our purchasing process. However, we'll still sample and do technical assays after the fact and we've found in more than 80 cases out of 100 the results have been near-perfectly matched to our own data. In every case, however, it allows us to protect our company from financial loss and I highly recommend every company employing this tool. We've reported any anomalies we've found and we are happy to say that your team has done an excellent job at rectifying these quickly.
Q. How would you rate Pfane's customer service, regarding the setup and modifications to your software.
Derek: Pfane has the greatest team I've ever dealt with, they are highly knowledgeable in the industry in regards to best practices, machinery processes and how the software works. It's been a pleasure working with them and they have done everything for us that they have promised to do. They delivered on time, and on budget and when we found a glitch they resolved it within minutes. For such a small company we have found your service to be nothing less than remarkable. Thanks for that.
Q. Would you recommend ViewPas to your suppliers, and would you mind taking calls from potential clients who have questions about the product?
Derek: I would absolutely recommend ViewPas to our suppliers, in fact you know we already have, as you've spoken to some in regards to setting them up. As far as communicating with your potential clients, I would be happy to answer anyone who has questions, as long as my phone won't be ringing off the hook with requests from everyone in the industry. Although, that may not be a bad thing either. :)
I would like to sincerely thank Derek for being one of the first companies allowing us to publish these responses publicly. Anyone looking to contact Evotus can do so directly through their website. https://www.evotusinc.com and anyone looking to bring Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning into their e-waste processing facility can contact Pfane through their website https://www.pfane.org.
