EVs in the First Half of 2023

There has been an enormous influx of Electric Vehicle (EV) launches in 2022, and the trend has continued in 2023 as well with multiple launches in the first half of 2023. By virtue of surging fuel prices, growing awareness about global warming, and enticing subsidies/incentives by the government, the journey of EVs seems to be prosperous.?

From start-ups to incumbent automakers, they are going all out to bring about dynamic paradigm shifts in the EVs industry with futuristic innovations and technological advancements.?

The following are the slew of EV launches in India in 2023:

Tata Altroz EV:

After Nexon EV, Tata Altroz will be the 2nd?EV in the company’s line-up. Built on the modular ‘ALFA’ platform, the electric variant of the popular ICE hatchback Altroz will accent an improved integrated electric power and drivetrain better than its counterparts.?

It is equipped with Tata’s Ziptron high-voltage technology and is said to deliver a range of 250-300 km on a single charge. The potential replicate with minor EV-specific changes claims to charge from 0%-80% in only 1 hour and has a top speed of 120 kmph.?It dons a permanent magnet 127.2 bhp electric AC motor propelled by a 30.2 kWh battery and can sprint from 0-100 kph in 12.63 secs.

The 5-seater EV features a 6-speed DCT gearbox, paired with the same 1.2 liters Revotron engine that churns out 86 bhp of power and 112 nm torque.???

Altroz is at a price range of 12-15 lakh and offers a warranty of 8 years on the battery and electric motor.

Mahindra XUV400 EV:

The Mahindra XUV400 is the company’s first all-electric SUV. The electrifying performer is available in 3 variants with a claimed range of 456 km on a single charge. It can be juiced up from 0%-80% in just 50 minutes and is priced between Rs17-Rs20 lakh.

The XUV400 is powered by a 150 hp electric motor with a 39.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, offering a class-leading acceleration of 0-100 km/h in 8.3 seconds, a torque of 310 Nm and a top speed of 150 kph.

MG Motor Air EV:

MG's second EV in early 2023, MG motor’s AIR EV is said to be a reincarnation of Wuling Air EV. If it follows the footsteps of the Wuling Air EV, the 3-door car will be the smallest EV in India, just 2.9 m in length surpassing Maruti Suzuki’s Alto and Tata Nano. While the size may be small, the range would be impressive between 200-300 km on a single charge. The MG EV is expected to come with a single front axle fitted 50 kW electric motor with a power output of 68 hp and a battery pack providing 20-25 kWh power. The compact city car is said to be loaded with features like dual-display touchscreen infotainment, dual-tone interior theme and a host of connected technology like Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, thereby giving it more of a premium touch. Priced between 10-12 lakhs.

Hyundai Ioniq 5:

Hyundai’s 2nd?electric car is at a price between 45-50 lakh. The Ioniq 5 is a flagship product of Hyundai’s line-up and will be assembled in India. Featuring a battery pack of 72.6 kWh, it has a top speed of 185 kph. A power output of 225 kW and torque of 605 Nm. It can be electrified from 0-80% in just 18 minutes and the customers can even get the interiors of the EV customised. Ioniq 5 is said to accelerate from 0-100 kph in 5.2 secs and deliver a range of 481 km on a single charge.

Citroen eC3:

The electric version of hatchback C3, Citroen eC3 is the first EV by the company in India. The premium hatchback is launched at a price of around Rs 10-12 lakh.?It is said to be powered by a 30.2 kWh battery pack which generates a power output of 86 hp and 143 Nm of torque. Adding on, it offers a claimed range of up to 250 km on a single charge, and a power output of 86 hp. Citroen will boast a top speed of 120 kph and it can go from 0-62 kph in 10.5 secs in the manual version. The EV will also equip buyers with a 3.3kW onboard AC charger.

Summing Up:

2023 has opened doors of success for EV automakers. Owing to the exceeding shift toward electrification, the frequency of EVs getting launched in India is also increasing. Currently, there are over 14 lakh EVs on the roads of India and with new innovations brewing up consistently, the numbers are going to surge with launches getting better and better. The EV industry is getting heated up with increasing demand for electrified vehicles, thereby, leading to increased business opportunities, cutthroat competition, and regular practices to enhance the EV experience.?
