In the digital security community, we're familiar with Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks—coordinated bot networks that overwhelm servers, rendering services unavailable. But today, we're witnessing a similar attack vector in the realm of social platforms: a Denial of Truth (DDoT) —where coordinated networks of fake engagement bots manipulate algorithms, obscure legitimate voices, and erode the credibility of digital ecosystems.
One example of this is the rise of LinkedIn PODs—groups where users give control of their accounts to automated services, artificially amplifying engagement to cheat LinkedIn's algorithm. 6 个月THE question Barry is to what degree the platforms such as LinkedIn and others truly want there to be any control and or accountability for this rise in bots and in 'fabrications'. Let's not forget the platforms live off clicks and so called engagement, it is why LinkedIn having now become indisguinshable from Facebook and that one can equally well on LinkedIn as on FB see uploads of family holidays. As we have a near monopoly status on a range of platforms, and no real alternatives it is likely that we will over time (soon) see that no platforms carrying any kind of value or trustworthyness and upon that simply wither and die!

6 个月One of the outcomes of this type of activity is mistrust. And the less people trust a platform, the less they will use it. That’s obviously bad for LinkedIn but it is just as bad for us because it prevents genuine meetings of the mind. It relegates a potentially fruitful platform to just another spam pile. I don’t think we are beyond the point of no return but we are rapidly approaching it and there is only so much a single individual can do. Like you say, we need to be concious of how we promote each other and don’t get sucked into the vanity metrics.
