Over the last several years I have had the privilege in working with a large local health institution developing a strategy together to yield hard dollar savings-
At the beginning of the relationship with the client they were a bit overwhelmed with the idea of totally changing the way they were doing things, due in part to the overall size of the organization. In our team meetings with the leaders of the institution they really had not put a value on copying/printing expenses as it was viewed as a necessary operational expense. My team and I kept bringing ideas to the management team through our quarterly STAR review, to help them see the potential savings if they were willing to make small (EASY) changes.
After the first year through our optimization strategies we were able to make "small" savings for the organization. Within that first year with minimal traction we were able to still bring a savings of $40,000 which was great but knowing there was a greater opportunity to help reduce cost we were not satisfied.
Then finally the big break happened!
We were able to provide detailed analytical information to the values analysis committee on the current spend vs. future state that we envisioned for the organization. Our persistence paid off as upper management bought in. The ideas we had for savings potential now aligned with their strategic goals.
Dedicated to the success of their organization we developed a step by step process to perform onsite evaluations to help identify areas of inefficiency, redundancy and high operational expense. Through their willingness to listen, buy in and trusting that we (Toshiba) were a bit different in the way we view our business partnership I am happy to say we have helped save over $100,000 per year!
