Evolving as a Leader

Evolving as a Leader

EVOLVING AS A LEADER

Leaders, are you trying to get better?? Hopefully, you answered with a resounding “Yes!”.

I routinely work with leaders through the lens of learning to lead confidently and I always discuss evolving as a leader.

Regrettably, some people immediately think something like “If I need to change, then that means I must be doing something wrong.” No, it does not.

Hopefully, you are leading in a manner that accentuates your skills and knowledge and fits your context.?

Having said that, the collective knowledge we have about things like leadership, followership, employer-employee relationships, personal growth, and professional development constantly increases. With this growth comes the need for leaders to evolve.

Were leaders good in 1972? I would assume, yes.? This does not mean that because leadership is different now they were wrong then. They led in a manner that suited the times and societal norms. Assuming they took care of their people well, that would still resonate today. However, what if they approached things in a manner that we now know is not ideal? They were not wrong then, but if they are still leading today, trying to employ those same strategies may not exemplify good leadership.

How can one evolve?? There are a manner of ways to do this including things like the following:

  1. Read the latest literature on leadership.
  2. Attend conferences.
  3. Take a class.
  4. Hire a coach.
  5. Hire a mentor.
  6. Hire a consultant.
  7. Network.
  8. Listen to podcasts on leadership.

As you can see, the growth opportunities are plentiful and varied. Find what works for you and start your evolution.

Please remember just because you are changing DOES NOT MEAN, BY DEFAULT, THAT YOU ARE WRONG NOW!

Contact me today at [email protected] so I can help you and your people evolve into the best leaders you were meant to be.
