When I first encountered project-based learning as a Sustainability specialist, I experienced a mixture of excitement and trepidation that many educators will find familiar. The promise of deeper learning through authentic projects was compelling, but the practical challenges seemed daunting. How could I balance engaging project work with curriculum requirements while managing the ever-present constraints of time and resources? This fundamental challenge led me down an unexpected path of innovation, ultimately leading to the integration of artificial intelligence with project-based learning methodologies.
My journey from classroom teacher to educational innovator wasn't linear. Each challenge I encountered pushed me to seek creative solutions, eventually leading to the development of AIxPBL and my collaboration with PBL expert Thom Markham, Ph.D. , leading to the foundation of PBL Future Labs (Now available for consulting and coaching services). This partnership emerged from our shared vision: empowering educators to harness AI's potential while preserving the human-centred essence of project-based learning.
Through years of research, practical application, and collaboration with educators worldwide, I have developed the EVOLVE method – a structured approach that transforms the complexity of modern PBL implementation into manageable, actionable steps.
