Challenge:
Solar Contractors/Developers so far know very little about Energy Storage and find conflict when crunching their numbers in order to make their solar offering have a financially appealing ROI.
Conflict arises when Contractors use accurate Utility Increase Assumptions discovering reality today of the two rate plans...Day-Time and Night-Time analyzed with usage interval data. Daytime Rates have been de-escalating in all IOU's for a decade. Forced TOU in NEM 2.0 changed the playing field. Many contractors I have found are choosing to ignore Storage claiming it is not for today just to sell their solar PV system today. Very short sided and will bite them back in the next couple of years.
Storage Contractor/Developer folks know what they do but not allot about Solar EPC. Choosing to go after the AC coupled quick buck Demand Savings. Constant push-back from Solar Contractors has brought turmoil into the growing ES Industry slowing it down. This has caused Storage Manufactures to work with Development type sales groups to go directly to the customers to build upon the Early Adopter momentum occurring for several years now.
Solution to this "Us vs Them Conundrum"? = Transparency & Education. There are a few of us solar veterans today immersed in both of these industries throughout the Manufacturing-Development-Engineering-Procurement-Construction of them. The key is to find those of us whom are involved and know all of it providing synchronicity from start to completion.
