The Evolution of LinkedIn
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed LinkedIn going through massive changes recently?
If my memory serves me correctly, I use to benefit from LinkedIn's networking capabilities in order to connect with people in my field of work and with potential clients. These days, it's much less of that to me and much more of a media consumption company in the way Facebook, Twitter and Instagram push out content for users to continually create and consume.
All of the above mentioned companies, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram rely on user created content in exchange for giving the user a free platform to push the content out to friends, family and businesses.
These days if I get a message on LinkedIn it's either someone that I connected with 5 minutes ago asking if I'll do business with them... which is not a smart ask or a paid message that someone thought I'd be a good target for.
There was a time long ago that I got job recommendations and people endorsing me for skills which has 100% dried up even though I have way more followers than in years past.
I understand the direction LinkedIn is going I'm just not 100% sold on the idea that it's the way their mission should lead them. My guess is LinkedIn is putting the ad revenue it gets to push content before the reasons that it was created... to help workers and job seekers network.
A case of money before mission? A case of if LinkedIn doesn't make money they can't support their core mission? Both? Neither? A case of it's a free platform if users don't sign up for Premium, so take what you get?
Prove me right! Prove me wrong! I'd love to hear from you in the comments either way.

5 年Jab, Jab, Jab.... (Gives)? how many do you recommend before the Right Hook (ask). See book by? Gary Vaynerchuk. I think it's a subjective matter, and developing trust is the main thing. How much trust? Depends on the ask! It's not enough to have common "friends" on LinkedIn, unless they are friends for 20 years. Use your EQ.

5 年I find I agree with your comments. I'm put off by people who follow up immediately with offers to work together right after connecting, and asking me to recommend them, even though we don't really know each other at all - rather than try to share their information and expertise, and engage in a dialogue to establish a relationship, as you've done.
