As we wrap up the year, we’ve got some important updates from the EV world to keep you informed and ahead of the curve as we head into 2025.

Keep reading to learn more about the topics we're going to be covering in this months newsletter.

EV Drivers’ Confidence in Public Infrastructure Grows

Based on a recent comprehensive survey of EV drivers, results show encouraging progress with regard to RV charging satisfaction, yet also highlight areas for further improvement—important information for fleet managers and EV enthusiasts alike.

Here are the key takeaways to keep you informed:

?? Improved Satisfaction: 61% of drivers report better charging experiences, but public charging still has room to grow (average score: 64/100).

?? Infrastructure Growth: The UK’s rapid charging network has expanded by 38%, with 486 hubs now available, offering more accessible options for fleet managers.

?? Top Charging Spots:

  • Motorway Services remain the most popular (58% of drivers charge here).

  • Charging Hubs are growing in popularity (53% use them).

  • Supermarkets are less common now (32%), as free charging options decrease.

?? EV Satisfaction: EV drivers rate their vehicles 87/100, highlighting cost savings, environmental impact, and performance. Just 3% are interested in switching back to ICE vehicles.

As the UK continues to transition to electric, businesses, local authorities, and charge point operators must ensure reliable, efficient, and accessible charging options are available in key locations to further improve the driver experience.

Do Fleet EVs Have to Pay London Congestion Charges?

As of now, electric fleet vehicles are exempt from the London Congestion Charge. However, this will change in 2025, making it crucial for fleet managers to plan ahead.

Here's what you need to know:

  • London Congestion Charge: Currently, EVs are exempt from the £15 daily fee within the Congestion Charge Zone (CCZ), but this exemption will end in 2025.

  • Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ): EVs are also exempt from ULEZ and LEZ charges, but businesses need to stay aware of its expanding boundaries.

  • Cleaner Vehicle Discount: Fleet managers can register EVs for the Cleaner Vehicle Discount, saving on congestion fees. This exemption is available until December 2025.

What’s Next for EV Fleet Managers?

As we approach 2025, it’s important for businesses to stay informed about regulatory changes and explore solutions to maintain cost savings.

New Carbon Reporting Challenges: Are UK Fleets Ready?

Starting 1 January 2026, the UK’s new Sustainability Disclosure Requirements (SDR) will require large companies and financial institutions to disclose their environmental and social impacts.

This includes reporting on fleet carbon emissions as part of their overall carbon footprint.

Fleet managers must act now to prepare for these new regulations, which aim to standardise sustainability reporting across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions—including:

Scope 1: Direct emissions from owned or controlled sources.

Scope 2: Indirect emissions from the electricity used to power operations, including EV charging.

Scope 3: Other indirect emissions, such as those from supply chains and third-party services.

What Does This Mean for EV Fleet Managers?

For organisations transitioning to EV fleets, accurately measuring and reporting on Scope 2 emissions—including electricity used to charge EVs both on-site and off-site—is critical. However, traditional reporting methods may:

  • Overlook real-time grid carbon intensity, leading to inaccurate emissions data.

  • Overstate environmental benefits if EVs are charged during high-carbon grid periods.

With the SDR deadline approaching, there’s no time to lose.

Ensure your business is ready to meet these new reporting requirements while unlocking the full potential of your EV fleet.
