• 1989: Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web (www).

• 1991: Tim Berners-Lee created HTML.

Tim Berners-Lee created the HTML and considered it an application of SGML. In the mid-1993 publication of the first proposal for an HTML specification, the "Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)" Internet Draft by Berners-Lee and Dan Connolly included an SGML Document type definition to define the syntax.?

This draft expired after six months but was a notable achievement due to the acknowledgment of the NCSA Mosaic browser's custom tag for embedding in-line images, reflecting the IETF's philosophy of basing standards on successful prototypes.

• 1993: Dave Raggett drafted HTML+.

Dave Raggett created a competing Internet-Draft in late 1993 called "HTML+ (Hypertext Markup Format)". It suggested standardizing already implemented features like tables and fill-out forms.

• 1995: HTML Working Group defined HTML 2.0.

In 1995, the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) created an HTML working group that completed the "HTML 2.0". HTML 2.0 was the first HTML specification intended to be treated as a standard for future implementations.

• 1999- 2000s: HTML 4.01 was created.

After HTML 2.0 was created in 1995, the?World Wide Web Consortium?(W3C) maintained its specifications until late 1999 when HTML 4.01 was published.? In 2000, HTML became an international standard.

In 2004, the development of HTML5 commenced in the Web Hypertext Application Technology Working Group (WHATWG), which later became a joint deliverable with the W3C in 2008. The HTML5 was completed and standardized on 28 October 2014.
