Evolution - Have You Realized How Much Everything Has Changed?

Issue #7 - MakeItHappen Newsletter

Dear MakeItHappen Community,

I am inviting you to take a moment to reset your perspectives and think about How we can adapt to new circumstances.

As human beings, we tend to cling to the familiar and secure, only risking change when faced with danger or adversity or if something bad happens to us and it makes us see a different perspective.

However, in order to grow and thrive, we must learn to embrace the discomfort that comes with shifting our mindset.

Recently, I had the privilege of attending a live LinkedIn Audio event led by the inspiring Felipe Cofi?o (be sure to follow him and join his thought-provoking sessions!).

I rarely speak at audio events but this time I really wanted to speak up , because the topics, the insights and the perspective was resonating with me.

The topic, "Workplace Wellness Hour: Women, Mentorship & Allies in the Workplace," struck a chord with me, as lately I've been feeling that we're on the edge of a significant societal shift.

Lately I am feeling , that we are at a big shift in our society, nothing works from the old system, and we are wondering and feeling it , but its hard to see,and its hard to move and change. We kind of loosing our ability to adapt fast, a skill that humans have been mastered so far.

Just pure Curiosity

Here is a summary of problems I see around this topic:

The Problems:

1. Talking about change isn't enough; we need to set things in motion, get the momentum and act on it, and adapt if needed, this method was always working and there are new elements we can add with the new innovations coming into our lives to actually really make an impact together.

2. We include and label simultaneously, creating conversations filled with tags that unintentionally divide people. Also we may miss the point and become false advocates if we think we already know and understand everyone's perspective. We think we know and we think we listen.

3. We struggle to shift our ways and accept that the environment has changed, often resorting to extremes like patriarchism, women empowerment, or woke culture – fighting old battles within outdated systems.

Some possible Solutions:

1. To truly shift, we need to experience the uncomfortable and challenge ourselves to grow every day with the curiosity of a newborn child.

2. In discussions about diversity and inclusion, we must forget the labels and lower resistance by embracing everyone for who they are.

3. Let's forgive our ancestors, learn from their mistakes, LET THE PAIN GO, DON`T HURT OTHERS BECAUSE OF THAT PAIN OF HISTORY and set a new path forward, striving to be better every day.

I have to add that digital revolution doesn`t help either. While some of us are tech-savvy with access to high-speed internet, others struggle to connect at all. Technology companies often push out new products without thoroughly testing their long-term impact on health, well-being, and society – much like the lack of consideration for the environment during the industrial revolution. CANT WE DO BETTER THIS TIME?

It's time for us to wake up and approach life with curiosity, asking ourselves how we can understand more, be more, do better, serve better, and think long-term for future generations, rather than focusing solely on instant profit.

Independent Union-No labels

PERSONAL INSIGHT

I, too, was once blind to these issues. Living in Europe, I took everything for granted until I moved to Asia. As a minority in a new environment, I experienced a shift in perspective that I couldn't have understood before, and even now, after eight years, I'm still learning.

READ THROUGH AND IMAGINE

So, I invite you to take a moment today to close your eyes and imagine the following Scenario:

"Imagine you want to go to have a beautiful night and dance your sorrows out and just feel good.

You enter the room, there are many people at the event, there is a nice music, your body already reacting to it.

You look around you choose and invite a partner, no words just a gentle look.

You dance, connect and make the most out of that dance and the music playing, you try to support each others balance, you react on the intentions you two become ONE.

At the end of the night, you go home feeling enriched by the connection you shared with another human being – and all you can think about how fun and joyful it was to connect with another human being. You didn't see any tags or labels and it was working you made each others life richer."

This is the level of understanding and connectedness I wish for our society. A world where we recognize that our lives are intertwined, and the survival and well-being of others directly impact our own.

Connecting people through Movement and Cultural Intelligence

As the famous saying goes, "We rise by lifting others." – Robert Ingersoll

In fact, a recent study by McKinsey & Company found that companies in the top quartile for gender diversity on executive teams were 25% more likely to have above-average profitability than those in the fourth quartile (Diversity Wins: How Inclusion Matters, 2020).

Let's embrace the discomfort that comes with growth, challenge ourselves to see the world through new lenses, and create a society built on understanding, empathy, and the celebration of our shared humanity.

Idealistic, Maybe, Impossible? Nothing is impossible:)
