Evidence Based Hacks to Improve Engagement

Evidence Based Hacks to Improve Engagement

The question of how to engage our employees is a big one.?

When employees are fully engaged, sustainable high performance can occur.

When you understand how an individual works and what an individual needs, you can help to tailor a powerful organisation filled with engaged brains.

For over twenty years, we have been looking through the deeper lens of neuroscience to see what goes on in the brain and add this to what has been known before. Today, some groundbreaking insights can help give us a scientific underpinning of engagement, helping you reshape how you work with teams and departments.

Did you know that since the pandemic, we have become more disengaged than ever???

According to Gallup’s recent State of the Workplace report,?

“a significant proportion of employees are not fully engaged in their work. Specifically, 85% of employees are either unengaged or actively disengaged. Unengaged employees, who make up 67% of this group, are indifferent to the success of their company and do the bare minimum required of them. They are often referred to as “quiet quitters,” as they may not overtly express their dissatisfaction but are unlikely to go above and beyond in their work”?

Here at Synaptic Potential, we aim to change this. Life’s too short not to show up enthusiastic, motivated, and engaged at work.

The benefits of engagement are plentiful. When an organisation focuses on engagement, they are likely to reap the following benefits in their staff:

  • Happier
  • Healthier?
  • More fulfilled
  • Focused
  • Advocates of the Organisation
  • More productive
  • Better cognitive functioning

Creating Engaged Brains

So where do we start with engagement? According to neuroscience, we should start with the brain's reward circuitry. This releases dopamine into our attention and self-regulation networks, directly impacting attitude, behaviour, and outcomes.

  1. Highlight contribution: Setting up something simple as ‘acts of kindness’ activates our empathy, which may release oxytocin and promote prosocial behaviours.
  2. Tell your organisational story effectively: By telling a story that your people can emotionally relate to, it will increase their motivation and drive to care about what you do.
  3. Create a more social atmosphere: Being able to laugh and connect with others is a huge part of feeling engaged and connected on a team.

These are some of the things we work on with organisations to increase engagement.
