Everything You Need to Succeed You Learned from Your Mother

Did your mother have a long list of "Mom-isms" that she would pull out of her hat when she had a lesson to impart? Things like "if at first, you don't succeed, try, try again" or "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade"? Mine sure did and I find myself hearing her voice in my head all the time as I proceed along my entrepreneurial path so in honor of Mother's Day this coming weekend, I thought I would share some thoughts on why our mother's advice is central to building your dream practice.

Here are a few "Mom-isms" that have particular relevance for entrepreneurs:

1. "If at first, you don't succeed, try, try again." Entrepreneurs face countless challenges and setbacks on the road to success. But as our mothers taught us, persistence pays off. Keep trying, keep learning, and keep growing.
2. "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." Entrepreneurship is all about making the most of the resources you have. When things don't go as planned, be creative and find new ways to turn the situation to your advantage.
3. "The early bird catches the worm." As an entrepreneur, it's essential to be proactive and take action. Don't wait for opportunities to come to you - go out and make them happen.
4. "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." In business, as in life, it's important to be kind and respectful to others. Treat your customers, employees, and partners with the same care and compassion you would show your own family.
5. "There's no such thing as a free lunch." Entrepreneurship requires hard work and dedication. Don't expect success to come easy - be prepared to put in the effort and make sacrifices along the way.
6. "Two wrongs don't make a right." As an entrepreneur, you will undoubtedly face challenges and conflicts with others. But as our mothers taught us, it's important to take the high road and find a peaceful and constructive resolution to conflicts.

As we celebrate Mother's Day this weekend, let's remember the invaluable lessons our mothers taught us and honor their wisdom by using it to build successful businesses and practices.
