Everything You Need To Know About This Year's Afh Student Design Awards

We are excited to announce that we'll sponsor the ArchitectsForHealth Student Design Awards 2023!

Are you a student interested in designing for healthcare environments? If so, the ArchitectsForHealth (AfH) Student Design Awards 2023 might be of interest to you. This annual design competition aims to promote good design and encourage the next generation to become passionate about the quality of design for health and social care settings.

AfH is keen to engage students within all design disciplines, including landscape, public art, interior design, and architecture. The awards offer flexible streams that depend on the type of entries received each year, and they accept mostly BA and MA level submissions. AfH is also pleased to accept independent students who have a passion for designing healthcare environments.

This year’s competition brief is “The Form of Wellbeing – a Sum of Parts,” which asks students to consider how architecture and the spaces and landscape we inhabit can respond to the new consciousness of the need for a healthy environment. The competition brief encourages students to think about how architecture, technology, interiors, and the environment are entwined in a symbiotic relationship with occupants, and how this relationship can evolve to create a future different from our present. Students are also invited to consider AfH’s three content streams for 2022: ‘Dream,’ ‘Build,’ and ‘Heal,’ which explore the evolutionary, revolutionary, and practical aspects of healthcare design.

Entries are judged by a panel of leading practitioners and clinicians, and winners will be announced during an in-person or hybrid event. Ansell and Bailey will be one of the sponsors!

AfH encourages those undertaking healthcare design projects to extend and embed their learning through reviews and seminars. If your students are interested in designing for healthcare but this is not part of the curriculum, AfH members can support them by offering a proxy client and/or a link to a local practice, available upon request.
