Everything you missed in December from Hold That Thought…

At the start of 2024, Hold That Thought on LinkedIn switched to monthly. If you prefer smaller bites of insightful content served up weekly, please go here.

Here is everything I shared in the Hold That Thought weekly newsletters throughout December 2024

Links from last month to turn overthinking into expert thinking:

  1. “Wintering is not about completely withdrawing or giving up. It’s about finding the right balance between rest and movement, solitude and connection. Like a tree pulling energy into its roots, it’s about gathering strength for your next season of growth.” The Art of Wintering by Anne-Laure Le Cunff, PhD
  2. Speaking of, Tree Spirit Wisdom is “a nurturing and educational space to renew your soul by connecting with the ancient wisdom of trees”
  3. What would it mean to be "done" for the day? — by Oliver Burkeman in The Imperfectionist
  4. As we close out the year and embrace opening a new one, the Year Compass is here to help you make sense of it all.
  5. The glorification driving us to chase perfect conditions — by Sheril Mathews on Substack
  6. The Door Problem by Liz England – about game design, but applicable to many jobs (and other openings/exits). Because I love the topic of doors so much, here are a few of my other favorite links about doors:
  7. Good conversations have lots of doorknobs by Adam Mastroianni
  8. Why game developers can’t get a handle on doors
  9. And my personal favorite meme ever, doors vs. wheels

Each week in the newsletter, I also include at least one underthinking link…something small and easy to delight the mind. Such as a simple site that tells you what percentage of the year is left or painting Jackson Pollacks or this very silly checkbox race

And here's new content from me last month:

If all that was a lot to take in…

Get the bite-sized version of Hold That Thought — the weekly newsletter that helps overwhelmed creatives, owners, and innovators turn overthinking into expert thinking. You'll see everything above, but with more context and in smaller, more digestible chunks — it's a short email with three things every Thursday.

In other related news, this season I'll be participating in my second Winter of Care and Repair (WoCaR) challenge. I learned a lot from last year, so I'm making this season's pledge a lot easier on myself:

A frame of clothes around text: WoCaR pledge is to Take at least one small action every day to focus on caring for and repairing the things that are important to me
Will you joing me in taking better care of our stuff this season? Hope so!

That's it for December…and the year! What landed with you? What would you like to see more of from me in 2025? Less of?

Be well and see you in 2025,

Kim

PS. I also shared this quote in one of my December newsletters; it's worth repeating:

“You are under no obligation to remain the same person you were a year ago, a month ago, or even a day ago. You are here to create yourself, continuously.” Richard Feynman
