EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON YOU

EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON YOU

Everything Depends On You

Patrick Mouratoglou, the most successful coach in modern tennis history sums up his life philosophy in 4 words “everything depends on you”.

It means that a player’s success is determined by how hard they are willing to work, how committed they are to their cause and how ambitious they are in how far they want to go.

Most world champions start right along side other players of a similar skill level but very often they start putting in a few hours more of practice everyday. The skill builds up over time till the differences start to show. As they win more, they commit more. Over a 10 year period a world champion would go on to spend 2/3/4 times more time on the court practicing and playing than others.

World champions challenge themselves. Against superior opponents. In unfamiliar territory and grounds. In new surfaces. This helps them overcome weaknesses and correct gaps in their game to become total high performance players.

When they are in off season world champions practice. Learn new skills. Study the game. Understand the opponents they may need to ask for.

Failure comes inevitably. Games and matches and tournaments are lost. After every loss when the champion picks themselves up thinking “everything depends on you”, the answer and the way forward is clear.

Set bold goals. Practise hard. Immerse more. challenge yourself. Keep at it.

Victory is inevitable for who those who never ever give up and keep pushing.

Everything depends on you is also very liberating as you cannot blame anyone or make excuses or find fault in the situation or the circumstances.

Everything depends on you means

-         It depends on your commitment

-         It depends on your hard work

-         It depends on your vision

-         It depends on your ability to learn

-         It depends on your desire to grow and improve

Whatever goals you are chasing, whatever dreams you have, wherever you seek glory under the stars, everything depends on you.

You are the master of your fate, you are the captain of your soul.

Everything depends on you.

I loved his episode along with the others in the Netflix docu-series "the Playbook". Tennis is a difficult sport to coach (as opposed to team sports) and so the onus is even more on the player - if Serena was not able to score off the net (as Patrick recounts at a point in the episode), it would ultimately have to her to corral the confidence to advance. Very relevant share Aseem Puri for all times and particularly for the current times.. Would highly recommend the series if you have not binged thru' it already - it's a remote-drop for sure.
