Everything Connected 9 - Composing the Metaverse!

"Meta without verse does not rhyme"

Prolog: What better way to write our next installment of Everything Connected than whilst watching the 4th in the line of The Matrix. So here is part 9 on the Metaverse and an unwitting review of M IV - Resurrections. We have incorporated the concept of the red pill vs the blue pill in our logo, our strategy utilizing blue-red chess board and some of the other topics on duality and physmatics that we at Numorpho (Neo+Morpheus?) are researching on for Actionable Intelligence. Mr. Smith in the Matrix explains this appropriately - Binary is the form of the nature of things - 0 and 1, light and dark, presence and its absence, Anderson and Smith. Rogue virus incarnations are not just restricted to Agent Smith, but now there is the Doctor who can slow motion, slow motion that Neo, the Architect and the Oracle have no control of. Also MORPHeus is now not real but an ExoMORPHic Particle Codex....and where the Starbucks equivalent coffee shop is called Simulatte!

In prior articles on Everything Connected, we have been serious about our intentions of composing the future and have iterated on our theme of:

  • Outside-Inside for geographical mapping and navigation using GPS, sensors and AR/VR/XR technologies
  • Make-Manage-Move-Market-Maintain for industrialized progression and commercialization utilizing IoT, Digital Threads and Digital Twins, and AI, and
  • Linked Solutioning for strategic partnerships

for the tasks of integrating disparate heterogeneous systems and building smart and intelligent products and solutions. We plan to define and use new DARQ and emerging technologies: Big Data, Cloud Provisioning, AI/ML, AR/VR/XR, Distributed Ledger, Genetic Programming and Quantum Computing, to accomplish our goals in the new.

What is the Meta? One part definition, one part aspiration, one part hype. In Part 9 of our collection on Everything Connected, we will elucidate on the buzz word of today - metaverse, share our opinion of its pro- and anti-rhetoric, and also discuss on how we think things would aggregate in the metaverse.

The metaverse (and Web3) are trends that are supposedly set to revolutionize the digital world. Neal Stephenson famously coined the term “metaverse” in his 1992 novel?Snow Crash, where it referred to a 3D virtual world inhabited by avatars (incarnations) of real people in which he envisioned lifelike avatars who met?in realistic 3D buildings and other virtual reality environments. The term "metaverse" is a?portmanteau of "meta" and "universe."

To begin with, here are some definitions for the Metaverse:

  • “The Metaverse is an expansive network of persistent, real-time rendered 3D worlds and simulations that support continuity of identity, objects, history, payments, and entitlements, and can be experienced synchronously by an effectively unlimited number of users, each with an individual sense of presence.”
  • “The ‘metaverse’ is a set of virtual spaces where you can create and explore with other people who aren’t in the same physical space as you.”
  • "A metaverse is a multiverse which interoperates more with the real world, incorporating things like augmented reality overlays, VR dressing rooms for real stores, and even apps like Google Maps. The?metaverse?is a hypothesized iteration?of the internet, supporting persistent online 3-D virtual environments?through conventional personal computing, as well as virtual and?augmented reality?headsets."

Here are some quotes:

  • Mark Zuckerberg: An embodied internet, basically an upgraded version of the internet where people can have different experiences that you couldn’t necessarily do on a 2D app or webpage. The metaverse isn’t a single product one company can build alone. Just like the internet, the metaverse exists whether Facebook is there or not. The tech giant formerly known as Facebook has already made significant investments in virtual reality, including the 2014 acquisition of Oculus.?Zuckerberg has been bullish on the metaverse, believing it could replace the internet as we know it.?"The next platform and medium will be even more immersive and embodied internet where you’re in the experience, not just looking at it, and we call this the metaverse," said Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg last month after revealing the company's rebranding.?

Our opinion is that Facebook thinks that the future of marketing is social and want to invest in the experience aspect and the behavioral data that they can utilize to profit on focusing on intermediary commerce connections.

  • Elon Musk: Metaverse isn’t compelling and Web3 is more marketing than reality. Both are a nebulous concept in which internet services are rebuilt around blockchain and cryptocurrency. It lacks use cases and is a disappointing experience for consumers.

Our opinion is that the companies that Elon's founded and part of want to do things on their own and very quickly replace parts and solutions that they have used before - case and point Mobileye (AP1 of Tesla), Nvidia (AP2) and creating their own self driving GPU in AP3 and the DOJO supercomputer for training AI for autonomous driving. Thus they are wary about bleeding edge technologies and want to innovate their own way - for example using Neuralink as the basis for next foray into human-machine interaction.

  • Satya Nadella: Microsoft's current CEO views metaverse as Real-time 3D computer graphics and personalized avatars to coordinate all their tools together to enable effective communication. The software giant already?uses holograms and is developing mixed and extended reality (XR) applications with its Microsoft Mesh platform, which combine the real world with augmented reality and?virtual reality. Earlier this month, Microsoft showed off its plans for bringing mixed-reality including holograms and virtual avatars?to Microsoft Teams. Also in the works for next year: explorable 3D virtual connected spaces for retail and workplaces. The U.S. Army is currently working with Microsoft on?an augmented reality Hololens 2 headset?for soldiers to train, rehearse and fight in.?Beyond that, Xbox Live already connects millions of video game players across the globe, too.

Our understanding of this is that Microsoft is creating the foundation for a flexible platform using Azure, Dynamics and Power so that composite architectures can be built with reliability, flexibility and operational characteristics that will be the basis of the next iteration of on-line communication for both personal and business interactions. Microsoft is investing heavily in OpenAI and has bought Nuance the voice and translation platform.

Now here is a definition from OpenAI's GPT-3 tool using the Davinci Engine:

The Metaverse allows users to create and share content, manage processes, play games, and connect with others. The main medium of communication between the users is through the use of avatars which allow users to interact with the virtual world and other users. The virtual world is similar to the real world in which it has buildings, roads, and other items, digitally represented. The interior of a building in the Metaverse can be viewed by a user who is outside the building by walking inside the building and looking around. The interior of the building is displayed digitally on the user’s Metaverse device, such as a Holodeck, and can be viewed and interacted with by the user’s avatar. The building’s interior can also be viewed by someone who is inside of the building by looking around the room and seeing the digital representation of the room on the walls. The digital representation of the room can be seen by other users who are also inside the building. As the Metaverse grows and more users use the system, the Metaverse will begin to take on a life of its own and will begin to create itself. As a result, the Metaverse will grow and evolve.

OUR TAKE

For the purpose of this discourse, “the metaverse” arguably isn’t a fixed set of attributes. It’s an aspirational term for a future digital world that feels more tangibly connected to our real lives and bodies. Understanding this next wave of computing and the internet allows us to be more proactive than reactive and think about the future as we want it to be, rather than how to marginally affect the present. It can be described as perhaps the fabric for Industry 5.0, the next version in our progression of the Industrial Revolution.

One of the metaverse’s key benefits is supposed to be “presence” — a sense that you’re physically engaging with places and people instead of watching them through a window. This dovetails nicely with the vision of Industry 5.0 - Human-centric enablement to foster resilience and sustainability.

We, at Numorpho Cybernetic Systems (NUMO), envisage the Metaverse to be composed of three layers: the physical layer, the digital layer, and the behavioral layer. Each of the layers will have a modalities which will be used to determine what objects, persons, and phenomena are created by the users. These modalities will be organized by the Metaverse fabric and be accessible to users in various capacities - be it as digital avatars, real time integrated information, endless aisle commerce, or immersive and interactive experiences not only to market and buy but also learn, work and use. The basis for the connected world (and universe) will be elevated compared to the present and we intend to partake in this revolution.

Using our 4 tenets - the Manthan design philosophy for Innovation, the Digital Twine Industry 5.0 Reference Architecture for process management, Tendril Technology for integration, and the Tau Codex Orchestrator for multimodal intelligence, we plan to be in the forefront of this next technological revolution.

?THE INDUSTRIAL METAVERSE

In an increasingly globalized world, developing and manufacturing physical products has never been more challenging. Geographically distributed design and engineering teams must synchronize with each other, third-party contractors, and suppliers. As we move into 2022 and beyond, technologies will converge and the industrial metaverse will start to take shape. Industry 4.0 (Industry IoT or IIoT) has been gathering data from equipment and environments for many years will be hyper digitized by connecting it to both innovation techniques and customer enablement frameworks to provide a unified ecosystem in what is envisaged to be Industry 5.0.

Augmented Reality and associated virtual worlds, distributed ledger using blockchain, and new AI and ML techniques will further be included into the Digital Thread to add remote collaboration as a feature set in this environment, where many users may access the same data at the same time and interact with each other virtually. Real time positioning systems and proximity sensors can add another layer to this mix and track product and person’s position in real time that is rendered in the 3D world complete with avatars and other defining information.

COSPLAY AND THE METAVERSE

In the past, cosplay was often seen as a niche activity, enjoyed by a small number of people who loved dressing up as their favorite characters from comics, movies, and video games. However, in recent years, cosplay has exploded in popularity, with people of all ages and backgrounds getting involved. Nowadays, cosplay is seen as a form of self-expression and creativity, and it has become an integral part of the online gaming community. In fact, many gamers now consider cosplay to be an essential part of the gaming experience, and many popular video games have been designed with cosplay in mind.

3D printing is quickly gaining popularity in the cosplay community. Cosplayers have moved beyond the needle and thread into 3D printing technology, which allows creators to bring their favorite characters to life. Today, creators are using the 3D printing technology to adapt intricate designs from movies and video games. 3D printing allows users to create physical objects from digital designs, and it has been used to create some amazing cosplay costumes and props. In fact, 3D printing has become so popular in the cosplay community that there is now a dedicated 3D printing category in the world’s largest cosplay competition, the World Cosplay Summit.

Cosplay is also becoming increasingly popular in the virtual reality (VR) community. VR is a new technology that allows users to experience digital worlds in a completely immersive way, and it has quickly become one of the most popular forms of entertainment. Cosplayers have quickly realized the potential of VR for cosplay, and there are now several VR cosplay projects that are in development.

NFTs are another are another technology that is quickly gaining popularity in the VR community. NFTs are digital assets that are stored on blockchain networks, and they can be used to represent a wide range of things, including virtual objects, digital assets, and even entire virtual worlds. NFTs have the potential to revolutionize the way that cosplayers create and share their costumes, and they could also be used to create virtual cosplay contests and exhibitions.

The future of cosplay is looking very bright, and it is clear that the online gaming community is embracing it with open arms. VR is set to play a major role in the future of cosplay, and NFTs could potentially revolutionize the way that cosplayers create and share their costumes. It is clear that this form of self-expression and creativity is here to stay. In addition to the traditional forms of cosplay (dressing up as favorite characters), we are likely to see more and more people using new technologies such as 3D printing to create even more amazing cosplay costumes and props.

CONCLUSION

The Metaverse will encompass a large and diverse array of interconnected virtual worlds. These worlds will be a place where people can experience a wide range of different cultures, environments, and activities and where people can share ideas and experiences with others. It will be a place where people can be creative and innovative, and where they can find new ways to connect with others.

The Matrix is a realm of imagination and possibility. It is the dimension of all possible things. You can't find the Matrix by going somewhere. You can only find it by changing the way you are thinking. To change the way you are thinking, you must be open to new possibilities.

More on this as we progress on our journey....."buckle your seat belt, Dorothy because Kansas is going bye-bye!"
