There is no shortage of articles, blogs, and videos about the 'perfect daily routine'.
So I'll kick this off by saying - what works for me may not work for you, but I want to expand your thinking to something that may be a little fresh.
I don't look at my morning as 'morning routine' anymore. I look at it as an 'energy routine' and here's why...
On my spiritual journey, I've been exposed to some of the best in the world, seen things that most would scream 'complete nonsense' and experienced healing that has shifted my entire system and consciousness to the point of making some pretty radical decisions in my life and business - none of which I regret.
Quite simply I'm a better man because of it.
If there's one thing that I understand at a deep visceral level it's the power of energy and what that does to our thoughts and the ability to manifest the life we want.
In business, this is about alignment. When we are in pain and suffering, we are out of alignment. Sometimes we just aren't aware of why we continue the same behavior even though it's stressing us out. This was me.
It's the same for someone in a job they hate. Their body is screaming for a decision, but the mind and ego keeps on coming up with excuses and fears. Fear is an energy, just like love is an energy. One takes energy away, another gives us fuel, passion and healthy drive.
Before I took a trip to India in 2014, I had been meditating for 10-20 minutes a few times a week using the apps like Calm and Headspace.
Like many, I would use those applications as a way to take me from stress to feeling better and this I did for quite a few years. Don't get me wrong, it worked.
But on that trip to India, we were immersed into meditation at a level that I had never been exposed to. We meditated for longer periods and were more consistent. We were taught how to self-heal, how to move energy around the body.
Then, one evening I was invited to a private hotel room where I witnessed adults flipping around on a massage table like fish, being moved without hand contact by a man with a wand (no his name was not Harry, it was Donny).
After about 30 minutes, it was my turn and initially skeptical, I then experienced a complete mindset shift into the power of universal energy. This got me hooked. I was a fish on the table and I felt the energy in my body like I was a transformer.
So I started to deepen my meditation and learned more about energy. At the time I was still drinking heavily, smoking, taking some drugs and I had not linked these addictions to the trauma that I encountered earlier in my life. I always say it took me a second to put on a protective shell and 30 years to break through it.
Another big turning point was when I spent 10 days of meditation for 10 hours per day during a Vipassana Retreat, and that really shifted my mental benchmark on how deep and long I was able to meditate for.
I started to experience far more peace, increased intuition, more creativity the more I lengthened my practice. It helped me to find the real me, beyond the masks and meditation opened up so many other doors to healing. It really is our universal guidance system, if we choose and take the time to access it.
It takes discipline, and most aren't prepared to do that, so sadly they don't get the benefits.
The ego wins most of the time and sabotages this critical reconnection with the heart that pulls many of us away from presence and joy. So things, life starts to break down.
I often hear people say 'I don't have the time'. To which I reply... would you rather have a full day of a scattered mind or take an hour and have a day of you in flow, ease, and peace.
So I did a little experiment. I meditated for one hour and when you do this you are in a pretty heightened state. Vibrating at a high energy level, negative thoughts turn to positive and you feel your entire body.
I then thought to myself, what if I just notice what takes me out of this calm place. So I went about my day and waited.
Do you know what it was that brought my energy down?
Yep... social media.
Here's the truth...
When you start to double your existing meditation time and then move closer towards the hour, a whole new world opens up.
When I work with very successful business owners and entrepreneurs, I spend an entire month clearing up energy. It's the 'Energy Month' because I know the impact that this has on them, their emotions and their level of focus and flow.
Remember, when energy increases, thought patterns change. It's our thoughts that create beliefs and it's those beliefs that shape who we are.
If we don't like who we are, it starts with our energy. Period.
