Everyone’s story is so different, yet some things remain the same.

In my latest interview with Julia Wheeler we talked about the various challenges that must be overcome when you truly want to achieve your goals and the best ways to do that.
Hello everyone! My latest DailyGrit Live Interview was with a real-life mermaid! Nah, just kidding, although that isn’t exactly far off. My guest was Julia Wheeler, a freediver and underwater wildlife photographer. She can hold her breath for a stunning four and a half minutes! Freediving is a very exciting, but also tough sport, one that is challenging not only physically, but also very demanding mentally. It’s a sport that absolutely insists you trust in yourself, and overcome your self-doubt.
Having the courage to keep on breaking barriers and facing your fears is what will help you go far, not only in sport but also in life. In order to achieve something, you need to be aware and truly believe in what you’re capable of. Self-doubt has no place in the mind of a winner. There are so many things in our daily lives that can affect our mood and our mindset. However, when you’ve decided that there is something that you need to accomplish, all of that needs to be put aside. Follow Julia’s example and tell yourself that this is now your time and this is something that you need to do to better yourself, to be better in your sport and nothing else can touch you right now.
Mentally committing to what you’re doing is important, that way you won’t lose focus along the way. There may be setbacks (aren’t there always?), but as long as you keep your eye and your mind set on what you’ve set out to achieve, those setbacks are easily overcome. Life is scary, and trying something new is always scary, which is what makes it fascinating. Let that motivate you to keep going, to keep learning, to find out what’s around the next corner.
No one’s journey is the same. However, I’ve found that the same core principles are what has guided people (including myself) to feel that they’ve been successful. It’s about appreciating the journey, with all the stops along the way, and giving 100% to each and every challenge. Grit and persistence are what gets you through the toughest spots. If you let it, life can be the greatest adventure.
