Everyone's most loved kooky family

This month in a bid to keep getting out there and enjoy every moment in life, I revisited The Hull New Theatre to be fully entertained by a musical comedy – The Addams Family. I absolutely adore this kooky family and when I knew it was coming to a theatre near me, I could not resist buying a ticket.

For those that haven't experienced this gem of a theatre. It's close to all the city centre attractions in Kingston upon Hull. Opening in 1939 it features musicals, opera, ballet, drama, children's shows and one-night performances, and of course the annual Christmas pantomime. The theatre had a refurb in 2017 and the?improvements allow the theatre to stage bigger, more ambitious shows like this one.

From the start it was finger clicking good with “The Thing”, the striking stage setting held its own with the equally amazing cast, being suitably spooky, with smoke and lightning strikes both adding to the atmosphere.

The production was packed with wonderful songs from Full Disclosure, When You’re an Addams, The Moon and Me, Trapped and Just Around the Corner to mention but a few – all sung by a cast who have the most sensational singing voices. Hauntingly harmonised by live music emanating from the orchestra pit, ensuring a treat of an evening.

Everyone’s most loved kooky family sang and danced throughout. The dancing was unsurprisingly well choreographed and executed with Morticia being Grimsby’s very own Joanne Clifton of Strictly Come Dancing. The story centered around family values and relationships with Wednesday Addams (Kingsley Morton), all grown up and having a shocking secret that only her dad Gomez (Cameron Blakely – the undeniable star of the show) knows. She’s fallen in love with a sweet man from a respectable family. Shock Horror!

All’s well that ends well in this love story with a difference, but there is pain, poignancy, heartache and surprises at every turn. Fans of musicals are sure to enjoy this family friendly show.

I love this venue as its so accessible, the team are helpful and friendly and there are all the usual treats not just from the entertainment but the range of refreshments too. You may be thinking that's great but how would I get there. If you live in Lincolnshire Hunts Coaches might be the answer. They will be visiting in July for Les Miserables. Check out their website for more shows and information www.hunts-coaches.co.uk.
