Everyone would like a guiding light - but what if it had X-Ray powers?

We have all spent lots of time over the years digitising business process ...and just sometimes to suit our own established ways of doing things - right? What I get asked quite a lot is - 'how do you know if those extra tweaks ever get used?' and particularly in established systems such as an ERP. At a recent meeting I got asked 'how do I help my business to appreciate that sometimes these 'customisations' don't deliver value but cause bottlenecks further down the line?' We have all been talking a lot recently about leveraging 'fit to standard' and taking a more 'off the shelf approach' to ERP. When there is no material differentiation - some things can be the same in every business - right? For some businesses the legacy of customisations that at the time were needed, now poses a barrier to the next stage of the journey to an adaptive digital platform.
