EVERYONE THINKS THAT THEY’RE AN EXPERT… BUT THEY’RE NOT!!!
?
?
On one of the Facebook pages, and I honestly don’t remember which one it is, I have been given the status of being an “EXPERT IN MY FIELD OF SELF-STORAGE”.?The day that I saw that I beamed with pride and thought of my parents who passed away years ago and how proud they would be of me.?That’s because I didn’t proclaim that I was an EXPERT, someone else did.?I didn’t argue with them.
?
?
I spend my days reading different pages on Facebook and LinkedIn and I see a lot of people call themselves experts, I see other individuals label others as experts, or, as in my case, a panel of “experts” included me in their group of experts.?That made me feel very good.?The definition of an expert is “a person who has a comprehensive and authoritative knowledge or skill in a particular area”.

There are self-proclaimed experts, and each self-proclaimed expert has their own approach as to how they arrived at a solution to a problem.?There is one self-proclaimed expert who everyone listens to who I think takes the wrong approach.?
?
?
True experts may have different approaches as to how to achieve a certain goal or accomplish a task.?It is up to those who analyze the approach to determine, in their own mind, which method is the most valid.?That expert exclusively uses a spreadsheet to use government generated statistics to determine where to build self-storage facilities.?His approach has statistical validity but loses the human factor and I feel that losing the human factor changes the whole picture.?He looks at population movement, state by state and city by city, and also uses crime statistics to determine the best neighborhoods to build those facilities.?I put my feet to the pavement and walk the streets.?I also can walk into a police precinct and talk to the Desk Seargent to find out what that neighborhood was, is, and will be because I used to be the accountant for the Long Beach, (CA) Police Officers’ Association and that gets me credibility with them.
