Few years ago , I was sitting in a conference room with some of the best minds in the technology world . We were going through round of introductions . When it was my turn , my first line of introduction was " My name is Abheek Dutta and I run a company " XYZ" , headquartered at Jammu and Kashmir . Suddenly, I found everyone in the room looking at me shockingly and paying highest level of attention . I am sure some of them thought they misheard me .For a moment , I also started thinking " Did I do a blooper here ? :-) "
But I was right then and right today also . The future of India lies in Tier 2 and 3 cities ( as a part of next wave) . Tier 3 cities will still be very much relevant and lead but will no longer remain the only choice. Today , when I see some great companies , they have already set up or thinking of setting up offices in tier 2 cities .
I still remember a discussion with a friend who told me that " Bangalore is the IT hub of India but don't forget it is also the attrition hub of India " . Here is why I advocate Tier 2 cities being the future of India :

- Employees who are from tier 2 cities get an opportunity to live near by and hence there is less chance of them leaving the company . Company gets benefitted .
- Employees now a days are not only looking for work life balance but also giving preference to fresh air , pure water , less traffic, and a sense of security .I remember back in 2017 when I was in Delhi and my daughter fell sick , doctor did not prescribe any medical but said if you can, go to your hometown for few weeks . she will feel better ( the cause of her not feeling well was air pollution ) .
- The cost of running companies in tier 2 cities is less .
- Government in tier 2 cities is more supportive as they want jobs to be created locally and it benefits them big time.
Etc. Etc.
While tier 2 cities have their own set of challenges but the benefits without any doubt are much more .?
