When I first read? Alex Gifford 's post mentioning our coaching session, I straight away commented that it's because he was a great counterpart. It’s since prompted me to share my answer to the question:
“Is Everybody Ready for Coaching?”
Short answer: No.
?
Here are some of the most common statements you will hear to indicate if some IS NOT ready to be coached:
? No one understands my world/has my expertise therefor can’t help me
? I’d love to but there is no time at all in my diary for this
? Sorry, why are we doing this? I don't see why
? I don’t think any of the 12 Coaches you’ve suggested are right for me
? It’s not me, it’s you (the leader, the organisation etc.).
? And what will happen if I don’t participate?
? I’m unlikely to be here in the future
On the flip side, here are some of the most common statements you will hear to indicate if some IS ready to be coached:
? I have a clear set of goals
? I’m ready to challenge my own assumptions
? I know, like everyone, I have both strengths and weaknesses
? I’m ready to try new approaches
? I have a sincere desire to grow myself as a leader
? I’m willing to be receptive to information I may not want to hear
? I want to make changes

1 年Fully agree Zoe. And through my coaching experience I've also learnt that to be a great coach, you need to be coachable. It's impossible to guide others if you won't take guidance yourself.
