Everyone can be a Leader
I first time hear about this concept via one of the top 10 Indian IT companies. It's a concept of how leaders are self selected but not appointed. But be careful, not appointed is very dangerous to the organization too.
This concept helps well maximizing human resource utilization, as you can see in the sticky note. Again, if it is not well influenced, it could be a mess.
It also about personal choice of work toward company and personal career goal. You like it you lead it. It could be just small task like performance testing. Leader makes sure, he or she can influence people to work on something to his and company interests. A gang of people genuine doing the right thing for company, will automatically reject corrupted idea. But if it is on the opposite and the gang of people themselves is corrupted, it will also turn the ship around. 水能载舟,亦能覆舟
However, above concept seem good when everyone is the business owner and come with genuine motive. Let me list down what pit falls for this concept:-
Unethical political tactic will be happening. Sometime even senior management has no idea what is happening toward these youngsters. Hidden password for servers? Changing network accessibility? Do you has any idea what is this hidden impact likes? Other than that, emotional manipulation? Unspoken unfriendliness – passes by and gives you an ignorance face but not in front of the boss? It can be a hell working place in creation where everyone hates everyone. It has to be controlled, when management unable to even detect these, it will be dangerous to the company.
Due to dirty tactics, the leaderships are changed frequently. This will create a very uncertain environment. People will be stress out unnecessary and spend a lot of energy for political motives. In fact they are actually hired to work on something. A very demotivating environment is created and every suppose to be good and people with the cutting edge skills leaving the corrupted company.
Merely not for small company or growing company. This creates a very bad image for a new company. This is seen to be not obvious when people leaving without expressing much disagreement especially Asian who is more conservative. Somehow, they are piss off and why they want to improve the company? A small company cannot take this when people leaving and spreading bad words about this company. End of the day, a business is all about same group of people. In current highly communicable society, bad words spread so fast that sooner or later it will stop the public relation of this small company. It could be a dead end for a company. However, for big company or world number one company, this mess is totally ok. This is due to the brand keeps attracting people in. There are no any other company like that. People do not really able to sue these big companies.
It may just turn Maslow Piramid upside down.
What need to be done to make sure this concept is applied in a harmony? Like the nature tells us, many varieties of creatures exist in an ecosystem. Each of the creatures depends on each other to survive. The harmony is something magical, it cannot be interfere too much nor not to interfere. When harmonious environment is created, anything and everything will bloom.
Not to do anything at all and hope for thing to works is definitely not a good idea. At least the team has to know there is such concept of Everyone can be a Leader. Sufficient ethic checking against the team and point the team to the right ethic is essential to create harmonious environment.
