Everyone’s an Athlete
What I mean is: We differ by degree, not kind.
There are biophysical health markers that determine our physical status: blood pressure, body fat, bone density, triglycerides, blood glucose, hormone levels, muscle mass…
Whether you consider yourself an athlete or not, your level of performance in your daily responsibilities will be affected by your physical state.
Whether it’s climbing the stairs, playing on the floor with your kids, delivering an awesome pitch to win a big contract or beating your opponent on the field – your health affects your performance.
We differ by degree, not kind.
Do we need to do as much physical training as a full-time professional athlete? No, of course not!
Will some light resistance training improve the quality of my life and increase my chances of being able to play on the floor with my grandchildren? YES!
We differ by degree, not kind.
Do I need to be as dialled in with my nutrition as an athlete preparing for a 3-day tournament with multiple contests every day? Fortunately, no.
Will controlling my diet a little better affect my ability to control my bodyweight so I don’t need a crazy diet and manage my blood sugar levels so I’m not tired for that deal-breaking meeting in the afternoon? YES!
We differ by degree, not kind.
Like athletes, do you need a more consistent sleep/wake routine and better sleep hygiene to help improve almost every physiological process of the body? Actually…this one is a yes…everyone’s an athlete, right?
We differ by degree, not kind.
Tiredness, obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, Type II diabetes can all be avoided by taking control of our lifestyle choices – particularly around physical activity, nutrition and sleep.
And it’s never too late – if you’re already beginning to suffer from some of these ‘avoidable’ health issues, they can be reversed!
We differ by degree, not kind.
No matter what your life demands are, you are an ‘athlete’ competing in your own ‘sport’.
Whether you are worried about your current health or you have concerns about your family health history.
Whether you get out of breath climbing the stairs or you’re prepping for your first marathon.
Whether you’re a tired parent at home raising your children or a high-flying executive that needs the energy to win the next deal.
To win you need support that’s tailored to you and your circumstances but is based on fundamental principles of how to optimise your health.
Everyone’s an athlete – and the people that don’t realise this are losing the game.
