2. Flipping the Script on the Crime Narrative

This is a crime wave.? Looting in San Francisco. Shooting in Chicago. Breaching the border in Texas. Women disappearing on military bases. Another high profile arrest. Another perp walks. We have to send the criminals a message. We have to take our streets back. If you don’t fight like hell, you’re gonna lose your country.? Their message is outdated propaganda, but when they say it over and over again, it becomes a fact of itself. Not a true statement, just truly stated. But this is a crime wave. Not one of bullets and guns, but of graft and corruption. Let’s look at The California Health Care Facility, the Department of Correction’s newest prison, in Stockton, California.

3. Kimberlé Crenshaw on History and Contradictions of Critical Race Theory and Its Backlash

Last Friday’s ACLU “At Liberty” podcast, Kimberlé Crenshaw discussed the definition and context of Critical Race Theory against recent misinformation; she advocated for a deeper historical understanding to counteract efforts to undermine American democracy.? As background, host Molly Kaplan and the accompanying article stated that “27 state legislatures and 165 national and local organizations have made efforts to restrict education on racism” at the time. These efforts are against Critical Race Theory, which dates back to the 1970s and 1980s, she said.

4. Unequal Justice Under the Law – Missouri Governor Chooses Politics Over Justice

I saw this earlier in the week. I actually clipped the image to use it later, but things got too busy and so by the time I got around to write it, the Washington Post already put out an editorial on it. Here’s the thing. This week, Missouri Governor Parson declined to pardon Kevin Strickland, a Kansas City man who has spent 43 years in prison for a crime that even the prosecutors in his own county prosecutor’s office say he didn’t commit. (I interviewed Kenneth Nixon, himself wrongly convicted and release on the Strickland case this week).
