Everyday Concerns Are Everyone's Concerns

Hello LinkedIn! Welcome to my newsletter, Al Mejia Speaks.

My goal is to inspire you to open your life and heart to those who are different. Building bridges takes a lot more courage than building walls. Please accept my invitation to learn more @ "Alvaro Mejia Inclusiveness"

“I still tremble, filled with shame and remorse. How can a loving father reject a son that adores you?"

Osprey Observer

Sometimes life throws curve balls at us. No one knows this better than Valrico resident Alvaro Mejia. Years ago, while sitting at the kitchen table, he embarked on a life-changing conversation with his son, Danny.

“Dad, I’m gay,” Danny told his father. Mejia did not handle this news well. Read the Article Here...

Lessons Learned the Hard Way

In my less-than-perfect life, I've distilled four lessons in love and acceptance that I'd like to share:

1. The Power of Listening

Genuine listening is the cornerstone of any successful relationship. By actively engaging in conversations, we create a space for understanding and empathy to flourish.

2. Respect as a Building Block

Respect is a fundamental element in nurturing connections. Treating others with dignity fosters trust and love, strengthening bonds in the process.

3. Gratitude as a Lifeline

Gratitude isn't just a fleeting emotion; it's a vital practice. Being grateful for the people in our lives, their contributions, and the lessons they bring can elevate our relationships.

4. Embracing Change and Growth

Change isn't easy, but it's necessary for growth. When I opened my heart and mind to the changes my son's identity brought, I realized that my journey had just begun. Embracing change can lead to deeper connections and personal growth.

From My Table to Yours:

Wishing Everyone a Happy Holiday Season!

It takes a long time to learn to accept differences. Some people never get it. Kitchen table conversations, the ones we speak in private, are the most important to have with our family and friends. But if we are different from each other, and we do not accept those differences, we will never be able to support them with empathy.

This year, let's be purposeful in our interactions. Let's make this a joyful season filled with love and respect, hope and connection.
