Everybody wants to be a cat

This is Reg- our cat.
You may recall my shameless route 1 strategy of last week in an attempt to bring attention to what I do in my role, when I posted a picture of our dog Rosie along with an explanation of how her GC Index proclivities mapped out after her completing the questionnaire.
It certainly attracted a lot of interest and I’m pleased to say questions and enquiries from people wanting to know more. It also got some interest from Reg who suggested to me that it was unfair to treat the dog better than him and he wanted to complete a profile too!
We thought it was a good idea too as Reg sometimes gets confused and unclear on where he can have the best impact in his role- as you can see from the picture , we have to start at the beginning by reminding him what his purpose is with some positive reinforcement on being a cat, we deal with his proclivities from there!
Now before I go any further, I’d like to point out that The GC Index is NOT a psychometric evaluation; it’s what is the worlds first Organimetric (organisation metric) which derives its data set from observational study of people in working environments and is a “measurement framework and language that identifies individual and collective energy for impact and how people contribute to the achievement of organisational goals”.
So, Reg completed his profile questionnaire , a simple 10-15 minute process which he answered a series of questions and/or statements that he needed to rank from “Strongly Disagree” to “Strongly Agree“.
?As I do every time someone completes a questionnaire, I immediately receive an automated message as usual from The GC Index to say a profile link had been completed and from there, I jumped on the laptop to see the results- it’s that efficient and easy.
?I opened the report to find out Reg had not 2 but 3? dominant proclivities , that of ?Polisher, Game Changer and Strategist .
Reg heard during his 1-hour free feedback & coaching session that as a Game Changer , at his best he imagines possibilities that others don't, and engages others with the excitement and the vision of what is possible.
A Game Changer’s contribution to the world is one of transformational change rather than incremental change, i.e., they see what might be rather than wanting to improve or change what is.
Reg also discovered that he has a high Polisher energy too and Polishers at their best seek to set the standard for excellence within their role and organisation. They can take products, processes and procedures and constantly seek to improve them.
Polishers will be able to understand and articulate the commercial, competitive advantage derived from continuous improvement. Consistent with this approach, they will value learning from review: ‘what could we do better, differently?’
Interestingly Reg also had a high Strategist proclivity – now Strategists at the best? ask ‘why’, they look for links between events and data. They seek to ‘fit together the pieces of the jigsaw’, to ‘join up the dots’ in a way that helps them to see the ‘bigger picture’.
Strategists their best bring a logical and analytical mind to making predictions about the future based upon the patterns of the past.
I thought he would be impressed with this level of detailed feedback that would enable him to have a greater impact in his role but because he’s a cat he was completely indifferent and couldn’t care less!
People are different though, they do want to know how they can have a greater impact in the workplace, it’s important to them.
Of course, this never really happened!
How could it?? Reg can’t talk!

As for Reg, as a contented cat he is constantly getting in to other houses in the area by putting his claws in to the bottom of magnetic cat flaps and lifting the flap outwards so he can get in and eat their cat’s food? ( we have the neighbours CCTV evidence I’m afraid!) so I guess that’s his Game Changer and Strategist proclivities at work and as for his Polisher energy, well, he thinks everything is just PURRRRFECT right now!
As for Rosie and Reg, it turns out they do have moments where they do disagree and clash, its not just a cat and a dog thing but as an Implementer Rosie gets frustrated by Reg’s high Polisher and Game Changer proclivities- she sees too much discussion and sitting on things looking for ideas & improvement when “good enough” will do.
Rosie also gets frustrated by Regs’ lack of inclination towards working as part of a team, he just doesn’t want to, preferring to do things his way or not at all.
For Reg, well, it’s a lot easier than that, he’s a cat, he hates dogs!
Please note- no animals were injured or harmed in the making of this post, although Reg did get very upset with that headband.
