Every Second Counts (or does it?)

My gym put up a new sign this month. If you watched the Bear, you'll get the reference.

When powerlifting, every second counts: how much I rest, how I warm up, how I set up my lifts, and how I do my lifts.

When I'm being productive, every second DOES count.

But I don't think every second counts when I'm enjoying life outside of my production.

You know that feeling when you lose sense of time? When I'm on vacation, I'm just being. I'm not worried about time.

Do you think every second counts?

I have been mentoring NYU students for over 15 years. I've been a part of the First Generation Professional Development Mentoring Program for 4 years.

Being a 1.5 generation student (my dad graduated from college; mom didn't) I know how much mentorship matters to provide students with advice, social capital and space to ask questions.

I am mentoring two Latina seniors who are on their way to amazing things. It's such a privilege to learn their stories and to see how I can support them in getting their first job out of college!

I have been an intense and anxious mess since the MLB playoffs started.

Watching Juan Soto hit a series-clinching three-run homer was a masterpiece in concentration, precision and clutchedness (is that even a noun???).

We play the Dodgers starting on Friday.

For anyone who does weighlifting or kettlebells, feeling your feet is important to bring stability to moving the weights. I use a zero drop shoe with a wide toe box because my feet are wider. These are the shoes that I use!

Shouting out Tom Potvin ! When he started talking about his story, he led with his values. I was struck by his humility and sense of purpose. He leads with collaboration and curiosity, and those are values that align with mine. When building trust, learning what values others have is a great way to start understanding how people see the world!
