Every product needs right placement. Even 'YOU'.

It's great to see how people get innovative about their Profile Pictures and honestly it's a wise thing to do. Now a days our DP is our first impression. On LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Google+ it's really important to have a good DP which kind of tells a story about you.

Irrespective of business or personal connects it's important to build a good reputation on the digital space.

Where you stand?

What are you doing?

What's in the background?

How well is the picture cropped?

All these questions are generally well tackled to tell a confident and interesting story about yourself.

Sadly enough one such space stays ignored when it comes to "what story am I telling"

Why don't people really look at the what ambience are they creating when they chat on 'Skype'

How do you manage to impress a client by keeping the ipad so low that the client can almost peep inside you nostrils.


or in the background there are series of vertical lines created by curtain, doors paintings, cupboards etc.

Now in these conditions how can we expect a client or friend or business associate focus on the conversation and not anywhere else.

Even worst what impression of your personality does the guy get?

often these words will pop-up

"confused", "non-tech savvy", "unprofessional", "unartistic". "gloomy"

I am sure none of you want these words to get associated with you.


Well the remedy is simple.

Think a little deeper about the setup before you start the call. Here are a few tips.

  • Find the sweet spot at home and in office.
  • Once you find the sweet spot stick to it.
  • Don't move around.
  • Stay well lit. Lit from the front.
  • Keep the camera at eye level.

Switch on a laptop or iPad camera and take a picture of yourself in the angle you choose for the call and look at it to decide whether it's impressive enough (be it a client or a date each interaction should leave a good impression).

A well lit environment always add a positive sheen to the whole conversation, it's key to positive vibes. Don't make yourself backlit and look like a ghost.


Don't move too much while talking it does two bad things

  1. The person looks not so confident
  2. Voice quality becomes and issue

Don't give that out of bed look, even if you are home look smartly dressed.

Ideally the background should look a little professional or else it should say something specific about the kind of person you are. For example.

My partner and co-founder Raman Kalia wants the world to believe he is well read and knowledge is his forte what better than a hint of bookshelf in the background, only a hint not make it too obvious or disturbing (that people start trying to read the book covers and forget the purpose of the conversation)


Where as I prefer being a bit bold and make a large graffiti as the background though it's a wall inside my house I make sure no other household stuff comes in the picture. It makes me look like a person who has an inclination towards art, who is confident and can be trusted for his aesthetics.
