Every mistake is a learning opportunity
I got a Network Attached Storage from the one of the best-known companies for storage, Western Digital (WD) - WD MY CLOUD HOME DUO 4 TB. Used it for about 6 months to realize that the file I deleted in the NAS is gone forever! Then discovered there is no trash / recycle bin - can you imagine buying a device to protect your files but doesn’t have an option recover an accidental delete. On top, if your internet connection is down, files cannot be accessed locally from NAS. Western Digital hope you are listening.
What to do now?
A bend in the road is not the end of the road unless you fail to make the turn!
This incident inspired me to build a full-scale NAS all by myself. After 3 months of juggling around hardware & software, I have a NAS which protects accidental deletes, works even when there’s no internet, with a RAID configuration to take care of hardware failures and accessible remotely. What a memorable way to conclude 2022. Welcome 2023
