A Hotel Expert is somebody who performs as an elite, at their peak, at exceptionally high levels of performance within their given domain, whether that be in the Kitchen, as a Housekeeper, an Accountant or anywhere else in the Hotel.
An?Hotel Expert's field of expertise could be almost anything from craftsmanship, through working an Event, running a Bar, looking after a Front Desk or Concierge, to Security or Engineering.
It might be appealing to believe that a genius is just born that way. Elite performance just comes naturally to the Hotel Manager or if you work in Front Office, Housekeeping, Bars or Restaurant, are a Chef: you don't have to invest all that time and effort on training, but unfortunately this is not true. A Hotel Expert does not simply inherit the right abilities or genes?
But the facts seem to be that, although people do differ in something called ability or talent, that we are born with as a starting point, in Hotels or any other area of Hospitality; To become an elite performer one has to capitalize on these abilities. Training is essential!
We all know an Expert when we see one in the Hotel. Normally we will quickly recognize the difference between Expertise and normal or ordinary performance in any department?
But how do Hotel Experts get to be Hotel Experts??Training, experience, and practice directly change our thinking and behaviour? As a Hotelier, Expertise is defined by the collection of all a person’s current knowledge and skill - that is trained.?Remember, Expertise, itself, is a descriptive term ...
There is little doubt that Mentorship is beneficial to gaining Expertise for both the mentor and mentee.?
However, to succeed as an Expert, a relationship between mentor and mentee will have to be effective. Both mentor and mentee must be investing in the relationship as a meaningful process and believe that they can both contribute and benefit from it?

To help gain Expertise our mentor will teach and advise, as well as providing support and encouragement to the mentee.
To help gain Expertise our mentee’s role will include setting clear goals and objectives, accepting responsibility for career development and being receptive to feedback?
The bulk of the work to become an Expert might have to fall to the mentee, but then the bulk of the tangible rewards will also fall to the mentee.
Expertise take time and commitment in a Hotel as it does anywhere else.
Successful Mentoring in a Hotel takes time, commitment and planning.
