Ever Heard of Futsal?

Ever Heard of Futsal?

Why is Futsal growing in popularity in the UK?

If you’ve never heard of futsal before, then boy are you in for a treat!

This ball sport has been growing in popularity over the last few years here in the UK thanks to its easy to understand rules and the smaller number of players needed to make a team.

What is futsal?

Basically, futsal is a subtype of football that is played on hard surfaces with a smaller pitch than you’d use for a regular game of footy.

What makes it so appealing is the game allows players to choose the pitch size dependant on the number of players available. It also gives greater freedom for improvisation and creativity. Using no walls or boards, the rules are similar to those of a five-a-side game, but the smaller playing area allows for better ball control. The reduced pitch size is also ideal if you (or a team mate) need to hone those passing skills.

What kit do I need to play?

The beauty of futsal is that the only bit of kit that you need is comfortable sportswear and the right ball.

Futsal balls are typically size 4 and specifically designed to reduce bounce which goes back to the previous point about greater ball control.

We stock a wide range of futsal balls with prices starting from just over £11, so as long as you have the right ball and suitable space, you’ve got everything you need to get started with your own futsal team!

If you’re lucky enough to be any good and have a band of mates that want to join in, a few team bibsmight not go amiss either when you start playing on the regular. We’ve got plenty of options starting from just £2 per garment, so order your bibs and ball in one go and you’ll be ready to kick off in no time.

What about the rules?

Although futsal allows for a little more creativity on the pitch, there are rules that need to be followed.

These include:

·       Five players on court with rolling substitutions

·       Played to lines. Ball is returned to play with a kick-in.

·       Use of wider and longer indoor pitch

·       All players allowed to enter the penalty area

·       No height restriction on ball

·       Use of square goals (3m by 2m) and use of size 4 futsal ball

·       Five foul limit. No wall for direct free-kick from 10m after the fifth foul

And that's pretty much it! So what are you waiting for? Get your pitch booked, ball and bibs ordered and get ready to test your skill at futsal!

Used to play local futsal league back in the day, it was great! Even at that level there were some very good players!
