Every Conversation is an Interview
Ever feel like you’re constantly auditioning for life? Well…you are! Every conversation is an interview – whether you’re chatting with your neighbour, catching up with an old friend, or discussing ideas in a meeting – someone, somewhere, is making a judgement call. So, why not treat every conversation like you’re the top contender for the role of YOU?
Here’s how to ace it.
1. Stay Curious, Stay Sharp.
People love to talk about themselves. Be the one who asks the most thought-provoking question (a.k.a., the one who’s actually listening). You’re not just hearing the words – you’re reading between the lines. For example, next time you’re talking to a colleague, instead of the usual, “How was your weekend?”, try, “What’s been the most exciting part of your week?” Watch them light up!
2. Speak Like a CEO.
You may not be running a Fortune 500 company (yet), but speak with the confidence of someone who could. Even if you’re just ordering a flat white, let your voice carry that “I’m going places” energy. Try this, when you're asked what you do, don't just say "I work in tech." Instead, go with, "I lead projects that transform businesses through cutting-edge tech solutions." Instant upgrade!

3. Flex That EQ Muscle.
Emotional Intelligence – it’s not just a buzzword, it’s your secret weapon. Picking up on body language, tone, and vibe turns every interaction into a networking opportunity. Consider this, you notice a friend sounding a bit off? Instead of glossing over it, say, "You don't seem yourself today. Everything okay?" They'll remember how you made them feel – cared for.
4. Drop the Script.
Be genuine. Interviews are stiff because people are trying to impress. But in real life, when you’re authentic, magic happens. Let them see the real you (with a sprinkle of wit, of course). At your next social event, instead of forcing small talk, say something real like, "I always find these events a bit overwhelming – how do you cope?" That honesty will draw people in!
5. Own Your Narrative.
Like it or not, people are walking away with a story about you. So, make sure you’re writing it! Leave each conversation knowing they’ll remember you for the right reasons – someone bold, confident, and undeniably sharp. For example, when someone asks, "What's next for you?" – instead of shrugging and saying "Not sure," hit them with, "I’m working on an exciting project to change the way people think about leadership in digital spaces." Boom, unforgettable.
Remember, you’re always one conversation away from your next big opportunity. Go out there and make sure every “interview” leaves them wanting more. Cheers to being your own biggest advocate. I am routing for you!

Revealing Christ: Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved | How shall they call on him in whom they have not believed | How shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard-Romans 10:13-15, Only Believe
4 个月This reminded me of my first job before I could even finish campus; I was invited for a meal by a colleague who had started a firm I didn't know about at the time and during our conversation, he hinted on an opportunity that was available. I've seen many other offers come through that way...how real this is, thanks for sharing
