Every Bit Ethical in a Digital Age
From the day D2L opened for business, I’ve seen us as a learning company first and a technology company second. Over the last twenty years, while the technological tools we use have evolved constantly, the values that guide how we apply them to learning have not changed a bit.
What’s bringing this to mind for me is a recent conversation I had with the CEO of EDUCAUSE, John O’Brien, about ethics in digital innovation. Please read my post on my Learning2030 blog: www.D2L.com/blog/learning2030-every-bit-ethical-in-a-digital-age/

5 年Great read John. Emerging technology, especially in underserved sectors and markets, are critical arbiters of what the digital future will look like, from both an engagement and impact perspective. I particularly love the quote about algorithms “being opinions embedded in code”. It’s a prescient distillation of the limitations of technology applications, which we often take for granted. Tough questions and invested actions, must follow the emerging opportunities for expansive corrections to existing digital frameworks catalyzed by these challenges. Interdisciplinary evaluations such as the one you’ve succinctly expressed here should be “food for thought” in calibrating said corrections. Looking forward to positively-reinforced roles played by various education stakeholders in this unfurling digital milieu. Thanks for sharing.
