Every artist has a favorite piece of work .
This painting is unique. I painted Duomo while working on a "drill ship" in the South China Sea (during my oil field days back in the late 70s) The view is from a picture I took from the tower of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. Florence is my favorite city in the world.
I always carried pen and ink wherever I went. This painting took almost a month to complete due to the detail. The first week I was there, we experienced a sea floor “blow out” and had to move the ship quickly. The gas bubbles from the blow out would cause the ship to loose boyancy and it would have sunk to the bottom of the sea. This gave me the luxury of time to complete the piece while we determined how to get the well back under control.

5 年Wow, Jim! You have incredible stories to tell. This is such a beautiful work of art - and so unexpected given the environment it was created in.
