Every animal has the right to live. Let's respect this right.

How can one still, in 2019, ask a veterinarian to euthanize a dog, a cat or any other animal on the pretext that he is old, handicapped or has an annoying behavior (aggressiveness, dirtiness, barking, destruction)? ...)?

How is it possible that in 2019, 300 animals are put to death, every day, in the refuges and pounds of France?

This observation is unbearable.

It is an indignation at the euthanasia of convenience of pets and the massive slaughter of farm and leisure animals that the AVA association was born almost 30 years ago.

Today, on the occasion of World Animal Day, we want to remember that animals have rights. The first of their rights is the right to life. Every animal is an individual, a sentient being, and he has the right to live.

Who are we to decide, in a completely arbitrary way, to end the life of a sentient being when he is still in good health?

Without medical reason, no animal should die under the pretext that the human being has decided that way.

"Doctor, you can sting my dog, he's bitten, and then he's 12, so ..."

"This cat will never be adopted anyway, so ..."

"My horse has won many races, but today he is too old, so ..."

"This cow is now too old to produce milk, so ..."

How many "then" must we hear to finally awaken consciences? How much more life must be sacrificed to put an end to this silent massacre?

Which solution ?

An alternative to euthanasia of convenience and slaughter exists: its name is AVA. In our Refuge, established in Normandy on an area of more than 75 hectares, we offer a real place to live to more than 500 animals (dogs, cats, horses, cattle and deer). We allow them to express their natural behaviors and to be free, whatever their species and whatever their path.

We strive to understand each of the animals we welcome, especially through the work of ethology (behavioral study) conducted within our Refuge, because we are convinced that "to protect, we must understand". With our knowledge, we want to spread our knowledge and know-how to the greatest number to develop our unique model of welcome and support animals.

Since the creation of AVA, we have offered a destiny to thousands of animals that had no more. If other structures like ours were to emerge, more lives could be saved. Together, let us know that an alternative to euthanasia exists.
