Amazon's AWS to invest over $5 billion to boost cloud computing in Mexico – ?February 26, 2024 ?
Amazon Web Services (AWS), announced on Monday it will invest over $5 billion to open a cluster of data centers in Mexico, amid growing demand for cloud services as more firms adopt new technologies.
Amazon has invested over 52 billion pesos ($3.04 billion) in Mexico since its arrival to the country in 2015. The new investment comes in the midst of so-called nearshoring, the trend of companies relocating businesses from Asia closer to the United States following disruptions in supply chains caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. New data released this month showed that Mexico outpaced China for the first time in 20 years to become America’s top source of official imports — a significant shift that highlights how increased tensions between Washington and Beijing are altering trade flows. ?
The United States’ trade deficit with China narrowed significantly last year, with goods imports from the country dropping 20 percent to $427.2 billion, the data shows. American consumers and businesses turned to Mexico, Europe, South Korea, India, Canada, and Vietnam for auto parts, shoes, toys and raw materials. Read More
Monterrey lead the Automotive Industry in 2023 –? January 25, 2024 ?
Monterrey stood out as the leading state in terms of investment attraction during 2023, mainly driven by the "Tesla effect", its economic diversity, and its proximity to the United States, facilitating the ‘nearshoring’ for companies relocating to North America, mostly Chinese. According to Automotive Directory, Monterrey attracted 43% of the foreign direct investment that the country registered from this specific industry, with 54 automotive projects, 23 of them being for e-mobility.
